Recall history
6 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.
01V023000 · Service Brakes, Air:Slack Adjusters
Reported: 2001-02-01 (February 1, 2001) · Model years: 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH AIR BRAKE HALDEX AUTOMATIC SLACK ADJUSTERS, LONG STROKE BRAKE CHAMBERS, AND DANA BRAKES. THE AUTOMATIC SLACK ADJUSTER ANCHOR BRACKETS CAN FAIL DUE TO FATIGUE FRACTURE AND COMPLETELY SEPARATE, CAUSING THE SLACK ADJUSTERS TO FUNCTION AS MANUAL SLACK ADJUSTERS.
Consequence: IF THE SUPPORT BRACKET FOR AN AUTOMATIC SLACK ADJUSTER FAILS, THE BRAKES AT THAT WHEEL END WILL NOT AUTOMATICALLY ADJUST. AS THE BRAKE LININGS WEAR, THE VEHICLE WILL HAVE REDUCED BRAKING CAPACITY, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A NEW BRACKET ON EACH SUSPECT SLACK ADJUSTER. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN FEBRUARY 22, 2001. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT INTERNATIONAL AT 1-800-448-7825.

ON CERTAIN CONVENTIONAL TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH PRO-SLEEPER BERTHS, WATER INTRUSION CAN BE FOUND IN THE BUNK CONTROL PANEL AREA AND POOL IN THE TOPS OF THE DOME LIGHT, TV/VCR, AND OR REFRIGERATOR POWER SWITCHES.
Consequence: THE CIRCUIT BOARDS IN THE SWITCHES COULD HEAT UP , POSSIBLY PRODUCE A FLAME OR FIRE, AND CAUSE PROPERTY DAMAGE, PERSONAL INJURY, OR DEATH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A WATER SHIELD OVER THE BACK OF THE ENTIRE BUNK CONTROL PANEL. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON JULY 16, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT INTERNATIONAL AT 1-800-448-7825.
NHTSA campaign record ↗00V149000 · Equipment:Recreational Vehicle/Trailer
Reported: 2000-05-23 (May 23, 2000) · Model years: 1998, 1999, 2000
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS BUILT WITH INTERNATIONAL CODE 16SCH (LOWER BUNK WEBBING RESTRAINT). INCORRECT BOLTS WERE USED TO HOLD THE BUNK WEBBING RESTRAINT LATCH BRACKETS TO THE BUNK BASE.
Consequence: IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, THE RESTRAINT MAY NOT CONTAIN THE OCCUPANT AND MAY RESULT IN PROPERTY DAMAGE, PERSONAL INJURY, OR DEATH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE ALL GRADE 5 BOLTS WITH GRADE 8 BOLTS AS REQUIRED.
NHTSA campaign record ↗00V131005 · Power Train:Automatic Transmission
Reported: 2000-06-06 (June 6, 2000) · Model years: 2000
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH EATON AUTOSHIFT GEN II TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLIES. DUE TO A SOFTWARE PROBLEM IN THE TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLIES, THE TRANSMISSION WILL SELECT THE WRONG GEAR.
Consequence: IF AN INAPPROPRIATE GEAR IS SELECTED WITHOUT THE DRIVER'S KNOWLEDGE, THE VEHICLE WILL REACT DIFFERENTLY THAN EXPECTED, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN INJURY OR CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE AUTOSHIFT TRANSMISSIONS.
NHTSA campaign record ↗01V187000 · Steering:Linkages:Arm:Idler And Attachment
Reported: 2001-06-07 (June 7, 2001) · Model years: 2001
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: HEAVY DUTY VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 20,000 POUND RATED DANA I-200 FRONT STEER AXLES. THERE ARE VISIBLE CRACKS IN THE SEAL DIAMETER AND LARGE BEARING DIAMETER ON THE FRONT AXLE KNUCKLES, WHICH CAN REDUCE THE LIFE EXPECTANCY OF THE KNUCKLES.
Consequence: IF ONE OF THE SUSPECT STEERING KNUCKLES FAILS, THE WHEEL AT THAT WHEEL END WOULD COMPLETELY SEPARATE FROM THE VEHICLE WITHOUT WARNING AND THE DRIVER WOULD EXPERIENCE A SUDDEN LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE TWO FRONT STEERING KNUCKLES. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN JULY 20, 2001. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT INTERNATIONAL AT 1-800-448-7825.

ON CERTAIN HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH JOST INTERNATIONAL JSK 37U SERIES FIFTH WHEELS, A FATIGUE CRACK CAN DEVELOP IN THE BRACKET PIN WELD UNDER CERTAIN LOADING CONDITIONS.
Consequence: IF LEFT UNDETECTED OR CORRECTED IT COULD LEAD TO THE SEPARATION OF THE FIFTH WHEEL TOP PLATE FROM ITS MOUNTING STRUCTURE, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A CRASH
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE BRACKET PINS AND REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS FREE OF CHARGE. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT JOST INTERNATIONAL AT 616-846-7700 OR BY EMAIL TO [email protected] OR INTERNATIONAL AT 1-800-448-7825.

Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
Equal-age model-year comparison
Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
2000: 0 complaints · 2001: 0 complaints
| Model year | Through age 0 | Through age 1 | Through age 2 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2000 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| 2001 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Date coverage across each selected cohort
| Year | Incident dates used | Filing date fallbacks | Excluded dates |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2000 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| 2001 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
