Recall history
5 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.
87V076000 · Structure
Reported: 1987-05-26 (May 26, 1987) · Model years: 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987
LEFT AND RIGHT CAB STEPS, LOCATED DIRECTLY UNDER THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER CAB DOORS, COULD FAIL FROM CORROSION.
Consequence: SHOULD THE STEP FAIL WHILE BEING USED IT COULD CAUSE PERSONAL INJURY.
Remedy: REPLACE STEEL TUBULAR STEPS WITH NEW ALUMINUM STEPS.
NHTSA campaign record ↗83V120000 · Suspension:Rear:Springs:Leaf Spring Assembly:Leaf
Reported: 1983-11-17 (November 17, 1983) · Model years: 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984
A SPRING LEAF MAY FRACTURE THROUGH THE CENTER HOLE SECTION. THIS OCCURS DUE TO LOOSENING OF THE SPRING-TO-AXLE MOUNTING ATTACHMENT FOLLOWING EXTREME FLEXING OF THE SPRING LEAVES. THIS KIND OF FRACTURE MAKES THE REMAINING TWO LEAVES VULNERABLE TO PROGRESSIVE FRACTURE.
Remedy: VEHICLES WILL HAVE THE THREE-LEAF SPRING ASSEMBLY REPLACED WITH AN IMPROVED UNIT.
NHTSA campaign record ↗86V052000 · Seat Belts:Front:Anchorage
Reported: 1986-04-08 (April 8, 1986) · Model years: 1985, 1986
THE SEAT BELTS LOOSEN AS TRUCK IS DRIVEN. THE NON LOCKING RETRACTOR TAKES UP ANY BELT SLACK, GIVING FALSE IMPRESSION THAT THE BELT IS STILL TIGHT. CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: THE DEFECT CAN INCREASE THE POSSIBILITY OF INJURY TO THE BELT WEARER IN EVENT OF A VEHICLE CRASH.
Remedy: REPLACE INBOARD DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEAT BELT HALVES WITH LONGER BELTS THAT ASSURE PROPER LOCKING ANGLE BETWEEN BELT WEBBING AND BUCKLE.
NHTSA campaign record ↗86V085000 · Service Brakes, Air:Supply:Hoses, Lines/Piping, And Fittings
Reported: 1986-07-01 (July 1, 1986) · Model years: 1986
TRUCK TRACTOR TO TRAILER HOSES INSTALLED ON THESE TRUCKS MAY NOT MEET ADHESION REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS 106, HYDRAULIC BRAKE HOSES. THE HOSE OUTER COVER AND BRAID DID NOT WITH STAND TENSILE FORCE REQUIRED BY THE STANDARD. CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: THE HOSE MAY FAIL CAUSING PARTIAL LOSS OF BRAKING CAPABILITY WHICH COULD LEAD TO A CRASH IF ALL WARNINGS RELATED TO POSSIBLE HOSE FAILURE WERE TO GO UNHEEDED.
Remedy: REPLACE HOSE ASSEMBLY IF OF THE SUSPECT DATE CODE.
NHTSA campaign record ↗89V021000 · Service Brakes, Hydraulic:Pedals And Linkages
Reported: 1989-02-17 (February 17, 1989) · Model years: 1989
THE COTTER PIN THAT HOLDS IN PLACE THE HINGE PIN, WHICH CONNECTS THE BRAKE TREADLE (PEDAL) TO THE FLOOR MOUNTING PLATE, MAY HAVE BEEN OMITTED.
Consequence: THE HINGE PIN COULD WORK ITSELF OUT OF THE HINGE,ALLOWING THE BRAKE TREADLE TO SEPARATE FROM THE FLOOR MOUNTING; DRIVER WOULDNOT BE ABLE TO APPLY THE BRAKES WITH THE FOOT VALVE, RESULTING IN A POTENTIALFOR AN ACCIDENT
Remedy: REPLACE ANY MISSING COTTER PIN AT THE BRAKE TREADLE HINGE PIN.

Problems by model year
Model-wide comparison of the eight most reported components across the model. Cells show counts and shares within each model year. Open a cell for source examples.

Darker cells indicate a larger share of submitted complaints. Components overlap. This measures complaint composition, not failure probability.
Failure mileage by component
Median and middle 50% of usable owner-reported mileages. Ranges require at least five records.

Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
Equal-age model-year comparison
Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
1987: 0 complaints · 1989: 0 complaints
| Model year | Through age 0 | Through age 1 | Through age 2 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1987 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| 1989 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Date coverage across each selected cohort
| Year | Incident dates used | Filing date fallbacks | Excluded dates |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1987 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| 1989 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
