Recall history

5 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

02V241002 · Service Brakes, Air:Supply:Check Valve

Reported: 2002-09-20 (September 20, 2002) · Model years: 2002, 2003

ON CERTAIN HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH BENDIX TC-7 TRAILER CONTROL HAND-OPERATED VALVE WITH PUSH-TO-CONNECT FITTINGS. THE DELIVERY PORT IN THE VALVE BODY MAY BE PARTIALLY BLOCKED DUE TO A PROBLEM DURING THE MODING PROCESS.

Consequence: SUCH BLOCKAGE MAY SLOW THE DELIVERY AND EXHAUST OF AIR TO AND FROM THE TRAILER BRAKES WHEN THEY ARE OPERATED BY THIS HAND-OPERATED TRAILER CONTROL VALVE.

Remedy: INTERNATIONAL WILL REPLACE THE HAND-OPERATED CONTROL VALVES. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN DECEMBER 31, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT INTERNATIONAL AT 1-800-448-7825.

08V258000 · Electrical System

Reported: 2008-06-05 (June 5, 2008) · Model years: 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009

NAVISTAR IS RECALLING 51,588 HEAVY TRUCKS, COMMERCIAL BUSES AND SCHOOL BUSES MANUFACTURED BETWEEN NOVEMBER 21, 2000 AND MAY 21, 2008, EQUIPPED WITH ONE OR MORE REMOTE POWER MODULES. THE POTTING MATERIAL THAT ENCAPSULATES THE CIRCUIT BOARD OF THE VEHICLE'S REMOTE POWER MODULE MAY NOT SUFFICIENTLY SEAL THE CIRCUIT BOARD FROM WATER AND CONTAMINATION INTRUSION. IF THE ENCAPSULATION IS COMPROMISED, WATER AND CONTAMINANTS MAY CAUSE AN INTERNAL ELECTRICAL SHORT, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A FIRE.

Consequence: A FIRE COULD CAUSE PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH.

Remedy: NAVISTAR WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND REPAIR THE VEHICLES FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JULY 10, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NAVISTAR AT 1-280-461-1890.

05V186000 · Wheels

Reported: 2005-04-28 (April 28, 2005) · Model years: 2005, 2006

ON CERTAIN HEAVY DUTY CLASS 8 TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH ACCURIDE ALUMINUM WHEELS, THE WHEELS WERE NOT PROPERLY PRE-STRESSED. THIS ALLOWS CRACKS TO DEVELOP OVER TIME.

Consequence: THIS MAY EVENTUALLY LEAD TO WHEEL FAILURE AND POSSIBLY RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE WHEELS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON MAY 13, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT INTERNATIONAL AT 1-800-448-7825.

05V241000 · Service Brakes, Air:Controls:Foot Control/Valve

Reported: 2005-05-27 (May 27, 2005) · Model years: 2006

ON CERTAIN CHASSIS, TRUCKS, AND TRACTORS EQUIPPED WITH AIR BRAKES, THE PUSH ROD THAT CONNECTS THE BRAKE PEDAL TO THE BRAKE VALVE WAS MANUFACTURED INCORRECTLY AND COULD BREAK UNDER CERTAIN LOADING CONDITIONS.

Consequence: IF THIS PUSH ROD BREAKS WHILE A VEHICLE IS IN OPERATION, A PARTIAL LOSS OF SERVICE BRAKING MAY BE EXPERIENCED. THIS COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH WITHOUT WARNING.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE PUSH RODS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JUNE 3, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT INTERNATIONAL AT 1-800-448-7825.

08V097000 · Parking Brake:Conventional:Air

Reported: 2008-02-29 (February 29, 2008) · Model years: 2008, 2009

INTERNATIONAL IS RECALLING MY 2008-2009 4000, 5000, 7000, 8000, 9000 AND PROSTAR TRACTOR/TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH BENDIX MV-3 DASH CONTROL VALVES. THE MOLDED VALVE BODY HAS AN INCORRECT CORE PIN IN THE INJECTION MOLD CAUSING THE VALVE BODY TO BE OVERSIZED IN THE DOUBLE CHECK VALVE AREA. THIS CONDITION CAN ALLOW THE RUBBER DOUBLE CHECK VALVE TO BECOME LODGED IN THE BODY OPENING UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES.

Consequence: IF THE DOUBLE CHECK VALVE BECOMES LODGED, IN THE EVENT OF A PRIMARY RESERVOIR FAILURE, AIR PRESSURE CAN LEAK PAST THE LODGED DOUBLE CHECK VALVE THEREBY DEPLETING THE SECONDARY RESERVOIR, CAUSING REDUCED ABILITY FOR MODULATING THE SERVICE EMERGENCY BRAKES INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE BENDIX MV-3 DASH CONTROL VALVES FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON MAY 9, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT INTERNATIONAL AT 1-800-448-7825.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
