I HAVE OWNED THIS TRUCK 3 WEEKS NOW AND ABOUT 1,000 MILES. THE ISSUE I HAVE US WITH THE STEERING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS ESPECIALLY. I HAVE NEVER DRIVEN A MODERN DAY VEHICLE WITH THIS MUCH STEERING PLAY. THIS PAST WEEKEND I TOOK A MOSTLY HIGHWAY TRIP AND IT WAS MENTALLY EXHAUSTING TO HAVE TO WORK THE STEERING WHEEL CONSTANTLY BACK AND FORTH WITH ABOUT 2" OFF PLAY BEFORE IT MOVED THE WHEELS. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WAS A "JEEP THING " AND I WOULD GET USE TO IT. BUT I HAVE OWNED 2 WRANGLERS AND CURRENTLY HAVE A GRAND CHEROKEE AS WELL …

Owner report 11269484 · 2019-10-18 (October 18, 2019)

THE STEERING BOX HAS AN UNACCEPTABLE AMOUNT OF PLAY ACCORDING TO 49 CFR 570.60 - STEERING SYSTEM. IT HAS MORE THAN 2 INCHES (1 TO EACH SIDE) OF PLAY AND REQUIRES CONSTANT ADJUSTMENT TO KEEP THE VEHICLE GOING STRAIGHT. FCA HAS REVISED THE STEERING BOX 5 TIMES SO FAR AND IS ATTEMPTING TO MASK IT WITH A STEERING DAMPER WHICH DOES NOT DO ANYTHING FOR THE LASH BEING OUT OF SPEC FOR THE VEHICLE.

Owner report 11342146 · 2020-07-29 (July 29, 2020)

LEASED BRAND NEW GLADIATOR. NOTICED AT SPEEDS ABOVE ~40MPH, VEHICLE WANDERS. THE STEERING FEELS VERY LOOSE, RESULTING IN NEEDING TO ACTIVELY STEER THE VEHICLE JUST TO KEEP IT GOING STRAIGHT (NOT AN ISSUE WITH ALIGNMENT). WHEN ANOTHER VEHICLES PASSES ME, IT PULLS ME TOWARDS THEIR LANE (LIKE WHEN A SEMI PASSES). TOOK IT IN TO DEALER 3 TIMES WITHIN A MONTH OF OWNING IT, WHO SAID IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE THIS DUE TO THE NEW ELECTRICAL STEERING. THIS PROBLEM IS ALL OVER THE INTERNET AND NEEDS TO BE FIXED. IT IS NOT SAFE.

TOOK IT TO THE DEALER MONROE DODGE AND THEY REPLACED THE BATTERY FOR ESS AND DID A RECOMMENDED PCM FLASH FOR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I PULLED OUT OF THE DEALERSHIP AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS IMMEDIATELY BACK ON FOLLOWED BY ESS LIGHT. THE STEERING HAS TOO MUCH PLAY BEFORE ACTUALLY TURNING TO EITHER LEFT OR RIGHT. THIS IS VERY NOTICEABLE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THIS MAKES THE TRUCK WANDER HAVING TO CORRECT IT CONSTANTLY AND WHEN HITTING THE BRAKES IT MAKES THE TRUCK PULL TO EITHER SIDE. I HAVE BEEN NEAR HITTING OTHER CARS AND CONSTANTLY CORRECTING THE WHEEL TO STAY IN LANE. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. I OWNED A JL THAT HAD THE SAME ISSUE UNTIL THE DAMPNER RECALL WAS DONE. THE DEALER TELLS ME IS A JEEP THING AND I KNOW NO DANGEROUS BEHAVIOR IS A JEEP THING.

On 12/2/22 while driving at 70 mph, I suddenly lost power steering. Every system warning light came on and windshield wipers began running when this happened. I managed to get it to the side of the road, but it has zero gauges, no acceleration, cannot shift, and cannot be shut off. After 30 minutes, the warnings began to clear themselves and I was able to safely drive it to a dealer. The battery was assumed to be the issue and it was replaced. 8000 miles on new purchase, never off road, this Jeep goes into a violent shimmy/wobble 60-70 when in an ever so slight off of center steering angle on the freeway after crossing an expansion joint or other sharp road irregularity. Coasting down is the only way it goes away. Full Throttle acceleration out doesn't help, nor hard braking. It's NOT consistent, but it's happened to me three times in recent weeks as the summer temperatures subsided from the 80's F into the fall 40-60 F. Again, purchased brand new May 2021, tire pressures are prope…

I am submitting this complaint due to an unresolved suspension-related safety concern and the manufacturer’s failure to provide an effective warranty repair despite multiple attempts. The vehicle has experienced a persistent vibration and abnormal noise that appears to be suspension-related and occurs during normal driving conditions. This condition has been ongoing for over a month. As part of the warranty process, Jeep provided a full replacement set of tires, stating that tire wear was the cause of the condition. This is the second occurrence I’ve had with this vehicle. While driving on a rural two lane highway, traveling approximately 60 miles per hour, my instrument cluster began to flash a “Service Shifter” warning. This warning was simultaneously joined by a check engine light, random readings of speed, rpm fluctuations, activation of the un-commanded activation windshield wipers, and intermittent loss of power steering. Video of this incident is available from when it occurred in May 2021 at 9000 miles, and again in October 2021 at roughly 18000 m…

I'VE HAD THE VEHICLE 3 DAYS. AT 40+ MPH, THE VEHICLE DRIFTS IN THE LANE. THERE SEEM TO BE A DEAD SPOT IN THE STEERING. DIDN'T NOTICE IT DURING THE TEST DRIVE, AS WE DIDN'T GO ON THE HIGHWAY AND GET OVERC40 FOR ANY LENGTH OF TIME. I DRIVE 25 MILES ONE WAY TO WORK, SO I NOTICED IT A LOT TODAY. THIS IS A $44,000 VEHICLE, IT SHOULD NOT DO THIS. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT MONDAY AT 8 AM FOR THE RUNNING BOARDS, I WILL DEFINITELY BRING THIS UP.

WHEN DRIVING THE SPEED LIMIT ON THE HIGHWAY (70MPH) we experienced some rough road. The steering wheel and the whole vehicle began to shake. This has happened several times and the shaking stopped when we slowed down significantly. Thankfully there were no cars in our immediate vicinity or this could have caused and accident. WE are reporting this to the dealership today. A search on social media reported many other people having this same problem.

The vehicle auto stops when the steering wheel is turned, in direct conflict with owner’s manual. The owner’s manual specifies that “Steering angle beyond threshold” will prevent an auto stop, but preventing the auto stop is the opposite of initiating the event. Furthermore, the instrument cluster never presents a “STOP/START READY” message which is the first necessary condition for an auto stop. This issue creates a serious safety hazard, as the vehicle presents incorrect information to the driver and the vehicle unexpectedly stops in traffic …

While driving several warnings lights illuminate: traction control, ABS, air bad, service 4 wd, and brake. When this happens power steering is lost making it extremely hard to steer the car. The brakes are automatically engaged and occasionally the windshield wiper turns on.
