2008 KAWASAKI KLR650 MOTORCYCLE. -SUBJECT: TURN SIGNAL DEGRADATION AND ULTIMATE FAILURE OF MANUFACTURED MATERIAL. -THE RIGHT REAR TURN SIGNAL ON MY MOTORCYCLE FAILED WITHOUT WARNING OR DUE CAUSE. I ARRIVED AT MY OFFICE TO FIND THE REAR INDICATOR HANGING BY THE WIRES WITH NO STRUCTURAL SUPPORT LEFT BY THE MATERIAL USED TO MANUFACTURE IT. IT APPEARS THE MATERIAL WAS WEAK AND ROTTED FROM EXPOSURE TO VIBRATION AND UV LIGHT. THE SIGNAL REMAINED OPERATIONAL, BUT COULD NOT BE LEFT ATTACHED BY ONLY THE ELECTRICAL WIRING. -DEALER REPLACED THE INDICA…
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 KAWASAKI KLR650. HE WAS DRIVING 55MPH ON HIS MOTORCYCLE AND IT SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE WIRES WERE RUBBING UNDERNEATH THE GAS TANK. WHEN THE WIRES RUBBED TOGETHER THEY BLEW A FUSE AND CAUSED THE ENGINE TO SHUT OFF. THE MECHANIC HAS BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL AT REPAIRING THE MOTORCYCLE FOR TWO WEEKS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 1,600.
THE STARTER GEAR SHAFT CAN MIGRATE OUT IN THE LEFT SIDE ENGINE COVER, LEAVING THE GEAR UNSUPPORTED ON THE INBOARD SIDE AND ALLOWING A WASHER TO MIGRATE LOOSE INTO THE ENGINE--POTENTIALLY CAUSING THE TRANSMISSION TO LOCK UP OR THE TIMING CHAIN TO SKIP TEETH AND CAUSE THE INTAKE OR EXHAUST VALVES TO HIT THE PISTON TOP, BENDING VALVES AND MAKING THE ENGINE INOPERABLE. *TR

Motorcycle with ML serial numbers have been overtorqued steering bearing nuts from factory, multiple problems showing up. Steering on mine locked up in a turn, but was able to force it to straighten out. Kawasaki is aware they overtorqued (via multiple sources) but has not released a tech bulletin, or service recall on a dangerous situation. Slow speeds steering will have a tight bind at the 12" position, and will have a hard time turning left or right out of the tight spot. Occasionally, turning back into the 12 position will cause a bind/catc…
Steering bearing overtorqued by factory, dealer warranty loostened and readjusted, initial tendency, failure to return to neutral, rough bearing feeling, caused many near misses with vehicles ahead, problem unresolved, I can feel it, dealer can not. Contra Costa Powersports, 1150 Concord Ave Ste 100, Concord, CA 94520 [phone removed]. Issue regarding drive train, false neutral. Potentially hazardous conditions occurred three times. Pulled over to adjust GPS, engine running, shifted to neutral, neutral light illuminated on dash, put the side st…

TURN SIGNAL MOUNT DRY ROTS AND FALLS OFF POSSIBLE CAUSE OF INJURY FROM SIGNAL ITSELF. OTHER PROBLEM IS IT COULD FALL OFF WITHOUT RIDER KNOWING IT AND COULD BE INVOLVED IN CRASH FROM LACK OF SIGNAL GIVEN TO OTHER VEHICLES ON THE ROAD. *TR
2008 KAWASAKI KLR 650 TURN SIGNAL SUPPORT FAILURE. THE RUBBER BOOT THAT HOLDS THE TURN SIGNAL ONTO THE MOUNTING LOCATION HAS SHEARED OFF COMPLETELY ON ONE, AND PARTIALLY ON ANOTHER. *TR
2008 KAWASAKI KLR 650 RIGHT REAR TURN SIGNAL HAS FALLEN OFF. THERE IS NO SIGN OF DAMAGE TO THE SIGNAL FROM A COLLISION. THE RUBBER HOUSING HOLDING THE SIGNAL HAS TORN AWAY. *TR
DEFECTIVE RUBBER PARTS/ RUBBER DRY ROT ON BIKE LESS THAN A YEAR OLD. MUFFLER BOLT FELL OFF DURING TRAVEL WHICH COULD HAVE CAUSED MUFFLER TO COME OFF DURING OPERATION. *TR

1. NO EVENTS PRECIPITATED THE EQUIPMENT FAILURE. IT WAS PURELY NORMAL USE. 2. THE TURN SIGNAL MOUNTING SYSTEM CRACKED AND COMPLETELY SEPARATED FROM THE MOUNTING AREA. THIS HAPPENED ON BOTH RIGHT & LEFT REAR TURN SIGNALS. 3. THE LEFT REAR TURN SIGNAL WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY FROM THE DEALER WITH THE SAME HARDWARE THAT WAS ORIGINAL TO THE MOTORCYCLE. THE RIGHT REAR IS STILL BROKEN BUT KEPT IN PLACE WITH DUCT TAPE UNTIL UPGRADED REPLACEMENT HARDWARE IS AVAILABLE FROM KAWASAKI. *TR

COVER SIDE HOLE THAT LOWER STARTER GEAR PIN RIDES IN IS MILLED TOO DEEP AND CAN RESULT IN SEVERE ENGINE DAMAGE. WHILE INSTALLING A BALANCER TENSION SPRING UPGRADE (ANOTHER ISSUE WITH THESE MOTORCYCLES) I FOUND I HAD THIS ISSUE. I HAD TO INSTALL A SPACER TO FIX AND PREVENT THE OTHER SIDE FROM COMING OUT OF ENGINE SIDE HOLE AND CAUSING DAMAGE. *TR
I HAVE A 2008 KAWASAKI KLR650, BOTH REAR BLINKER RUBBER MOUNTS BROKE AND THE BLINKERS WERE JUST HANGING BY THE WIRES WHEN I GOT HOME. I AM ASSUMING THAT THE RUBBER USED BECOMES BRITTLE AND BREAKS FROM VIBRATION. THE BIKE ONLY HAS 800 MILES ON IT AND IS A LITTLE OVER A YEAR OLD. THIS IS A FACTORY DEFECT THAT OTHERS HAVE REPORTED AS WELL. *TR
SHOCK PRELOAD ADJUSTER ON MY 2008 KAWASAKI KLR 650 BROKE. EVERY 08 KLR I KNOW OF, THIS PART HAS FAILED. AT THIS TIME THE REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE FAILING JUST AS FAST. KAWASAKI SO FAR IS REPLACEING THE PARTS UNDER WARENTY, HOW EVER THEY HAVENT UPGRADED THE THE PART TO PREVENT FAILER, YET. I HOPE THIS IS THE CORRECT ACTION TO INITIATE A RECALL.

WHILE TRAVELING ON MAIN HIGHWAY AT 2AM ENROUTE TO WORK I LOST ENGINE AND LIGHTS. NO WARNING. UNABLE TO SEE ANYTHING LET ALONE OTHER MOTORISTS BEING ABLE TO SEE ME. REPLACED MAIN FUSE & BATTERY...NOT THE PROBLEM. TAKING BIKE TO DEALER TODAY. OUT OF WARRANTY BY APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH. ONLY 1500 MILES ON BIKE. DEALER CLAIMS ELECTRICAL SHORTAGE SOMEWHERE??? COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. *TR
THE CONDITIONS HEREIN MAY CAUSE AN ENGINE FAILURE. THIS FAILURE COULD CAUSE THE ENGINE TO SEIZE WHICH COULD CAUSE THE LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE [MOTORCYCLE]. THE VEHICLE WAS IN USE UNDER NORMAL "STREET" CONDITIONS. HIGH OIL CONSUMPTION DUE TO MANUFACTURING DEFECT/ WORKMANSHIP. 1 QUART+ OF OIL PER 300 MILES, RESULTING IN HIGH AIR POLLUTION & POSSIBLE ENGINE SEIZURE---FROM THE LOSS OF OIL! PISTON RINGS LEAK OIL. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 KAWASAKI KLR650. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V059000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:MANIFOLD/HEADER/MUFFLER/TAIL PIPE) AND IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SHOULD NOT BE DRIVEN BECAUSE THE BOLTS COULD LOOSEN COMPLETELY AND THE MUFFLER COULD POSSIBLY SEPARATE FROM THE VEHICLE, CAUSING A CRASH OR SERIOUS INJURY. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT PAY FOR TOWING. THE CONTACT DOES NOT WANT TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED IF HE HAS…
