Recall history

2 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

03V255000 · Fuel System, Gasoline:Carburetor System

Reported: 2003-07-24 (July 24, 2003) · Model years: 2004

ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, CONTAMINATED FUEL USED DURING THE FINAL ENGINE INSPECTION PROCESS MAY HAVE CAUSED DETERIORATION OF THE CARBURETOR ACCELERATOR PUMP DIAPHRAGM, WHICH COULD LEAD TO FUEL LEAKAGE FROM THE ACCELERATOR PUMP CHAMBER.

Consequence: FUEL LEAKAGE IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE ACCELERATOR PUMP DIAPHRAGM. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON JULY 29, 2003. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT KAWASAKI AT 1-866-802-9381.

04V008000 · Vehicle Speed Control

Reported: 2004-01-06 (January 6, 2004) · Model years: 2004

ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, ACCELERATOR PUMP DIAPHRAGMS MAY BE DAMAGED FROM EXCESSIVE ASSEMBLY CLAMPING PRESSURE, WHICH CAN ALLOW FUEL TO LEAK FROM THE PUMP ACTUATING ROD AREA.

Consequence: FUEL LEAKAGE IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE ACCELERATOR PUMP DIAPHRAGM. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON JANUARY 20, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT KAWASAKI AT 1-949-770-0400.

PARKED MY 2004 KAWASAKI VULCAN 750 ON A FLAT CONCRETE SURFACE. GOT OFF AND WAS ABOUT TWO STEPS AWAY WHEN IT ROLLED FORWARD AND FELL OFF OF THE KICKSTAND, CAUSING MINOR DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. DID SOME TESTING AND IT TAKES ABOUT 20LBS OF FORWARD PRESSURE TO CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO ROLL FORWARD AND OFF THE KICKSTAND. ALSO TESTED MY OLDER MC, AN 81 YAMAHA 650, AND IT TAKES ABOUT 60LBS OF FORWARD FORCE BEFORE IT ROLLS OFF THE KICKSTAND. A SMALL CHILD COULD EASILY PUSH THIS KAWASAKI ENOUGH TO CAUSE IT TO FALL. I THINK THE KICKSTAND NEEDS SOME MOD…

Darker cells indicate a larger share of submitted complaints. Components overlap. This measures complaint composition, not failure probability.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
