Recall history

10 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

82V074000 · Service Brakes, Air:Supply

Reported: 1982-07-26 (July 26, 1982) · Model years: 1982

THE INVOLVED TRUCKS MAY HAVE BEEN ASSEMBLED WITHOUT THE INSTALLATION OF A SINGLE CHECK VALVE. THIS FAILS TO COMPLY WITH FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 121, "AIR BRAKE SYSTEMS". IN THE EVENT OF A SINGLE FAILURE IN THE REAR AIR SYSTEM, THE LACK OF A CHECK VALVE WOULD ALLOW SIMULTANEOUS LOSS OF AIR FROM BOTH FRONT AND REAR BRAKING SYSTEMS.

Remedy: DEALER WILL INSTALL A SINGLE CHECK VALVE, IF NECESSARY, WITHOUT CHARGE TO OWNER.

Reported: 1986-12-07 (December 7, 1986) · Model years: 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986

LINE PRESSURE SURGES OCCUR WHEN THE TRANSMISSION IS IN HIGH GEAR LOCKUP DUE TO A PLUMBING ERROR. CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: LINE PRESSURE SURGES COULD CAUSE BODILY HARM THROUGH ERRATIC FIRE HOSE DELIVERY ACTION.

Remedy: REWORK PLUMBING TO PREVENT LINE PRESSURE SURGES.

88V099000 · Vehicle Speed Control:Accelerator Pedal

Reported: 1988-06-24 (June 24, 1988) · Model years: 1987, 1988

ELECTRONIC THROTTLE SENSORS MAY FAIL TO RETURN TO IDLE DUE TO THROTTLE PEDAL STOP BEING INCORRECTLY MANUFACTURED OF ALUMINUM INSTEAD OF STEEL.

Consequence: THIS COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF TRUCK CONTROL AND ANACCIDENT.

Remedy: REPLACE ALUMINUM THROTTLE PEDAL STOPS WITH A STEEL VERSION, ALSO, REPLACE THROTTLE POTENTIOMETER IF IT HAS BEEN OVERLOADED.

SPRAGUE WIPER ASSEMBLY PIVOT CAN SEIZE DUE TO GALVANIC CORROSION BETWEEN THE ZINC-PLATED STEEL SHAFT AND THE BRONZE BUSHINGS.

Consequence: THIS CORROSION CAN CAUSE WIPER ARM/BLADE ASSEMBLY TO STOPWIPING WINDSHIELD, THIS COULD AFFECT DRIVER VISIBILITY AND RESULT IN ANACCIDENT.

Remedy: REPLACE SPRAGUE WIPER ASSEMBLY PIVOT WITH AN ASSEMBLY NOT SUSCEPTIBLE TO GALVANIC CORROSION.

Reported: 1991-04-18 (April 18, 1991) · Model years: 1990, 1991

THE ENGINE FAN MAY EXPERIENCE A RESONANT FREQUENCY CAUSING PREMATURE FAN FAILURE, AND SEPARATION FROM THE ENGINE.

THESE TRUCKS DO NOT HAVE THE PROPER CUTOUT IN THE FRONT DROP RAIL SECTION OF THE FRAME RAIL. WITHOUT THE PROPER CUTOUT, THE STEERING DRIVELINE GREASE FITTING WILL INTERFERE WITH THE FLANGE OF THE CHASSIS RAIL.

Consequence: STEERING DRIVELINE INTERFERENCE WOULD PREVENT PROPERSTEERING CONTROL. THE CONDITION CAN RESULT IN LOSS OF STEERING CAPABILITY.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT FOR PROPER CUTOUT AND ADEQUATE CLEARANCE WITH THE GREASE FITTING. IF ADEQUATE CLEARANCE DOES NOT EXIST, A CUTOUT WILL BE ADDED TO THE DROP RAIL.

24V915000 · Electrical System:Software | Service Brakes, Hydraulic:Antilock/Traction Control/Electronic Limited Slip:Control Unit/Module

Reported: 2024-12-09 (December 9, 2024) · Model years: 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025

PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain 2021-2025 Peterbilt and Kenworth vehicles, equipped with Bendix EC80 Advanced Electronic Control Units (ECU). Please see the recall report for a complete list of models. Electrical noise and low signal to the power line carrier may cause the ECU to incorrectly process commands or stop functioning.

Consequence: Safety systems that depend on the ECU (Automatic Traction Control, ABS, Electronic Stability Control, Active Cruise Control, and Collison Mitigation System) may not function properly or at all, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will reprogram the ECU software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed February 3, 2025. Owners may contact Kenworth's customer service at 1-425-828-5888 and Peterbilt's customer service at 1-940-591-4220. PACCAR's numbers for this recall are 24KWL and 24PBL.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
