05V136000 · Equipment:Recreational Vehicle/Trailer
Reported: 2005-04-07 (April 7, 2005) · Model years: 2003, 2004
ON CERTAIN CAMPERS EQUIPPED WITH SAMSUNG MICROWAVE OVENS, MODELS MR5491G, MR5492W, MR5493G, MR5494W, MR7491G, MR7492W, MR7493G, MR6698WB, MR6699GB, MR6699SB, MR1031WB, MR1032BB, MR1033SB, MR1351WB, AND MR1352BB, THE MICROWAVES WERE PRODUCED WITH A DEFECTIVE PANEL. AN ELECTRICAL SHORT CAN OCCUR BETWEEN CIRCUIT PATTERNS ON THE MEMBRANE PANEL, ESPECIALLY OVERLAPPED BY A "JUMPER" OR JUMP WIRE. THIS MAY CAUSE THE OVEN TO ACTIVATE WITHOUT PRESSING ANY KEY PADS.
Consequence: AN ELECTRICAL SHORT CAN OCCUR CAUSING THE OVEN TO ACTIVATE WITHOUT PRESSING ANY KEY PADS. THIS COULD RESULT IN EXCESSIVE HEAT, SMOKE, OR POSSIBLY A FIRE.
Remedy: SAMSUNG WILL NOTIFY CUSTOMERS AND REPAIR THE PANEL FREE OF CHARGE. IN THE MEANTIME, CONSUMERS SHOULD UNPLUG THEIR MICROWAVE, IF POSSIBLE. IF THE CONSUMER IS UNABLE TO UNPLUG THE MICROWAVE, THEY SHOULD LEAVE THE DOOR AJAR UNTIL THE PANEL IS REPLACED. CONSUMERS SHOULD NEVER USE THE MICROWAVE OVEN FOR STORAGE OR LEAVE ANY TOWELS, PAPER, CLOTH OR OTHER PRODUCTS IN THE MICROWAVE AFTER USE. OWNERS MAY CONTACT SAMSUNG AT 1-800-932-3837 OR LANCE AT 661-949-3322.

I HAD RECENTLY TAKEN THE CAMPER OFF THE TRUCK (AFTER FULLY LOADING THE 40 GAL WATER RESERVOIR WHICH IS LOCATED AT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE.) THE CAMPER WAS AT A STATE PARK ON OLD BLACKTOP AND A FAIRLY LEVEL SURFACE. AFTER PULLING THE TRUCK OUT WITHOUT INCIDENT, WE WERE LOWERING THE REMOTE JACKS WHEN THE DRIVER SIDE JACK COLLAPSED OUTWARD. THIS CAUSED THE LEFT FRONT JACK TO TWIST AND SLIDE THE FRONT OF THE CAMPER ABOUT 9 INCHES TO THE LEFT. THIS FRONT JACK FAILURE RESULTED IN… |

Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
Equal-age model-year comparison
Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
2004: 0 complaints · 2005: 1 complaints

Date coverage across each selected cohort

|---|---|---|---|
| 2004 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| 2005 | 2 | 0 | 0 |
Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
