Owner report 11518418 · 2023-04-22 (April 22, 2023)

The shift gear is broken. It is stuck in drive, I cannot park, reverse, or put the vehicle in neutral. Because the gear shift is stuck in drive I had to crash the vehicle into a curb, as not to hurt myself or others. Once resting against the curb I had to quickly get out and disconnect the battery, otherwise my car would have continued driving. The gear shift remains broken and in drive. Research shows that this is a common and persistent issue with Land Rovers; one that isn’t disclosed during purchase. This was a considerable safety hazard …

I experienced three incidents attributable to a malfunction of the turbocharger integrated exhaust manifold. The first two occasions the vehicle suddenly and inexplicably lost power slowing to approximately 5 mph. Acceleration only made the engine rev up but did not increase power. No prior indications from the function of engine nor any warning indicators activated at the time the first two incidents occurred. I had only owned the vehicle for two to three months when the first incident occurred. Being my first experience with a vehicle e…

While waiting at a light in 2022 our 2019 Land Rover Discovery Sport did not allow gear shift movement warning showed Gearbox alert we had to turn the car off & sit in the middle of traffic. It finally allowed gearshift to work & we then took it to Land Rover in Frisco,TX. Dealership permanently turned off the automatic auto stop/start function & stated they fixed the issue. Now in 2023 we have the same alert with ATPC with no stabilization & gearbox problems.

I drive a 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport, which was serviced over three months. The certified dealership replaced the head gasket, fuel injectors, cylinder heads, and starter engines. I am reporting what I believe is a safety‑related defect involving the automatic transmission in my 2022 Land Rover Discovery Sport, VIN [XXX]. Backing out of a driveway. Stopping and put the car in drive. Started to drive. Turned the steering wheel and heard a metal crunch. Steering failed because the bolts that hold electric motor attached to the steering mechanism sheered. Broke off from the mount. A very dangerous situation. Could have hit other cars as there was no control.

My 2016 Jaguar Land Rover Discovery Sport is displaying a CHECK ENGINE light. After having it seen by mechanics I'm told the Turbo-Manifold is faulty-CRACKED-and must be replaced, not safe to drive. It demonstrates by having noxious fumes enter the cabin, causing ill effects-not operable subject to dire illness. Should be part of RECALL. Please advise. My vehicle just turned 10 years old. It has a little more than 66,000 miles on it and very well maintained. It was operating fine with no issues up until the day I went to get into it last Friday. I started it up without issue, put it into drive and found that could not steer it. I actually had to have it put on a car carrier and taken to a foreign auto mechanic, who told me that I needed a completely new rack and pinion, my vehicle is not drivable. This should have been avoided had Land Rover checked the vehicle over when they were supposed t…

The braking system failed, specifically a brake line rupture/failure that resulted in a complete loss of braking function. The vehicle is currently located at AAA or IAA facility, because it was totaled after an accident. The loss of braking function created an immediate and severe safety hazard. My wife was unable to stop the vehicle, which resulted in a collision with another vehicle. This placed my wife, the occupants of the other vehicle, including a child seated on the side of impact, and others on the road at significant risk of serious i…

Vehicle engine shut down and completely lost power. Technician inspected and found intake camshaft actuator came loose from camshaft. On this vehicle it simply uses tension from the bolt torquing. There is no keyway to prevent this. Vehicle engine is destroyed. Very unsafe design.

2016 Land Rover Discovery Sport, turbocharger failed at approximately 98,000 miles. Vehicle required turbocharger replacement costing over $5,000. VIN is excluded from the existing turbocharger class-action settlement because the vehicle is identified as having a BorgWarner single-scroll turbocharger. I believe the turbocharger failure may represent a premature manufacturing/design defect similar to the turbocharger failures alleged in the existing Flynn-Murphy litigation.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

ODI 11536200

I checked the car for a pre trip inspection, and noticed the oil dipstick smelled of gas. Towed it to a service center where they were not able to confirm what was the cause as there are no warning lights and fuel injectors tested good. They drained and flushed oil, but the issue did not resolve. Concerned this issue is the same issue as other cars of the same model but different year have been recalled for, I am reporting the issue.
