Year-by-year records
Recall history
4 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.
94V032000 · Vehicle Speed Control
Reported: 1994-02-15 (February 15, 1994) · Model years: 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992
FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM RECONFIGURATION TO COMPLY WITH ENGINE EMISSION STANDARDS CAUSE HIGHER ENGINE VIBRATION LEVELS WHICH LEAD TO EARLY WEAR AND COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE SECONDARY THROTTLE RETURN MECHANISM.
Consequence: IN THE EVENT THE PRIMARY THROTTLE RETURN FAILS, FAILURE OF THE SECONDARY THROTTLE RETURN SYSTEM WOULD NOT PROVIDE PROTECTION AGAINST LOSS OF THROTTLE CONTROL.
Remedy: A NEW PRODUCTION SECONDARY THROTTLE RETURN SYSTEM CONFIGURATION WILL BE INSTALLED.
NHTSA campaign record ↗93V176000 · Power Train:Driveline
Reported: 1993-11-01 (November 1, 1993) · Model years: 1989, 1990, 1991
THE DRIVESHAFT TO THE FRONT DRIVING AXLE IS SECURED TO A BRACKET USING TWO PILLOW BLOCKS. THESE BLOCKS ARE OF INSUFFICIENT STRENGTH TO SUPPORT THE DRIVESHAFT AND COULD FAIL.
Consequence: PILLOW BLOCK FAILURE ALLOWS THE DRIVELINE (JACKSHAFT)TO DROP DOWN ONTO THE ROADWAY AND CREATE A SAFETY HAZARD TO OTHER VEHICLES.
Remedy: MACK WILL INSTALL THICKER PILLOW BLOCKS AND SUPPORT U-BOLTS.
NHTSA campaign record ↗93V137000 · Engine And Engine Cooling:Cooling System:Fan
Reported: 1993-08-20 (August 20, 1993) · Model years: 1991, 1992, 1993
THE ENGINE COOLING FAN BLADES MAY BREAK DUE TO INADEQUATE BLADE STRENGTH AROUND THE RIVETS THAT ATTACH THE BLADES TO THE FAN SPIDER.
Consequence: IF COMPLETE FRACTURE OF THE FAN BLADE OCCURS, IT COULDBE PROPELLED OUTSIDE THE FAN SHROUD, INJURING PERSON(S) IN THE VICINITY OFTHE TRUCK.
Remedy: AN IMPROVED FAN WILL BE INSTALLED ON THESE VEHICLES.
NHTSA campaign record ↗97V181000 · Steering:Gear Box (Other Than Rack And Pinion)
Reported: 1997-10-20 (October 20, 1997) · Model years: 1996, 1997
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: FRONT DISCHARGE MIXER CHASSIS. THE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT MITER BOXES HAVE NO PROTECTIVE BOOTS ON THE SHAFTS AND DIRT CAN ENTER THE SYSTEM CAUSING THE GEAR SHAFT BEARINGS TO DETERIORATE.
Consequence: THE BEARING DETERIORATION CAN CAUSE THE STEERING TO LOCK UP RESULTING IN LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THESE MITER BOXES.

Problems by model year
Model-wide comparison of the eight most reported components across the model. Cells show counts and shares within each model year. Open a cell for source examples.

Darker cells indicate a larger share of submitted complaints. Components overlap. This measures complaint composition, not failure probability.
Failure mileage by component
Median and middle 50% of usable owner-reported mileages. Ranges require at least five records.

Complaint and recall timeline
Explore monthly filing activity alongside recall announcements. Up to ten years of monthly history is available.
Solid line: filed complaints. Dashed amber lines: recall announcement dates for this vehicle selection; markers include all recall components. The latest month is partial. Temporal proximity does not establish causation.

Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
Equal-age model-year comparison
Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
1996: 0 complaints · 1997: 0 complaints
| Model year | Through age 0 | Through age 1 | Through age 2 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1996 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| 1997 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Date coverage across each selected cohort
| Year | Incident dates used | Filing date fallbacks | Excluded dates |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1996 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| 1997 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
