Owner report 11503897 · 2023-01-26 (January 26, 2023)

4 month old car and brakes are rusted and rotor is warped. The car is shaky and rear right side grinder. Mechanic said it was safe to drive and that it was a “user error” for being to hard on the brakes. They said they inspected the vehicle and could not determine the “brown liquid” was. They cleaned what I assume was rust and claimed it was safe to drive again. Two weeks and three drives later it is grinding again, smelling smoky, and shaking. I feel unsafe driving the car. There were no warnings or messages when the symptoms first appeared. T…

I purchased a brand new 2023 Mazda Cx-5 on December 2022 from Daytona Mazda. The car has been great up until 34,310 miles when I noticed vibration in the steering wheel. I take the car to Sport Mazda North in Longwood Fl. They checked the brakes and rotors and tires. My brakes and rotors are fine. They stated my tires have cupping. They suggested a wheel balance to slow down the cupping process and they suggested and alignment as well. But that I would need to replace the tires if I wanted that cupping to be gone. Unable to control the vehicle I gripped the wheel for dear life praying as it veered left. The 2023 CX 5 with only 18K struck the guard rail and went black on the inside and out. ENGINE MAKES LOUD NOISES AFTER DRIVING AND ACTS LIKE IT'S EXHAUSTED. THIS ALWAYS HAPPENS WHEN PARK THE CAR AND GET OUT OF IT. THERE IS A SLIGHT BURNING SMELL (WHICH I WAS TOLD WOULD WEAR OFF AFTER THE FIRST COUPLE HUNDRED MILES), BUT IT'S STILL DOING THIS. IT'S LIKE THE ENGINE OVER HEATED (WHICH NO INDICATOR) AND IT NEEDS TO COOL OFF. THE SMELL IS THE MOST CONCERNING PART.

I was driving my new 2023 Mazda CX5 with approximately 1,300 miles in the center lane of a divided highway of the suburbs just north of New York City. I was driving with all windows closed, A/C turned on and the weather was clear, hot and sunny. Without any warning there was a loud and abrupt explosion from within the vehicle. when you are driving in rainy weather on a highway the side view mirrors and windows fog up and you can't see. Putting on the defroster doesn't help. You have to drive with the windows open. On most cars if you open the windows the water would be evaporated from the rubber on the windows. The rubber is not thick enough on the front windows to do this. Bought it to a dealer and they said the same thing as far as the front windows are.

Blind spot sensors blocked error messages. This will happen at least a few times a year. Usually on long freeway drives, using cruise control, at night, and when cooler out (less than 60f). Restarting the vehicle makes the error codes go away and the system functions normally afterwards. Seems like either a software glitch or the system detects a guard rail for a while and gets confused and throws a Error message. This shouldn't be happening on a newer vehicle.

On October 16, 2025, while slowly pulling into a parking space, my vehicle experienced sudden and unintended acceleration without driver input. I did not depress the accelerator. Despite attempting to stop the vehicle, I was unable to do so. The vehicle mounted the curb, entered the sidewalk area, and struck a community mailbox, a tree, and two legally parked vehicles. My vehicle and the two parked vehicles were declared total losses. At the time of the incident, pedestrians, including toddlers, were present on the sidewalk. This loss of vehicl…

The passenger seat occupancy sensor goes off intermittently, causing an extremely distracting seatbelt alarm in the vehicle during operation. This has occurred to me while driving on a highway; I deeply lost focus on controlling the vehicle as the alarm started suddenly, I shoved the one water bottle off the seat to no avail, and I had to reach way over to plug the seatbelt in to silence it. In other instances where this occurs, only a full restart of the vehicle will reset the sensor. Existing TSB 08-001/23 was deemed to not cover my vehicle b…

The vehicle experienced a sudden and complete engine stall while idling immediately after fueling the gas tank to capacity on a day with high ambient temperatures (over 100°F). Leading up to the stall, the vehicle was subjected to temporary auxiliary loads (Max AC running and active steering input). Immediately following the stall, the vehicle exhibited a hard-start condition and would not catch fire. After sitting turned off for several minutes, the vehicle restarted normally. We purchased a certified pre-owned Mazda CX-5 from Wellesley Mazda in [XXX] on XXX. As soon as we got home and tried to exit the vehicle, we noticed that the driver's seatbelt was not releasing. Since then, we have noticed that the seat belt has not latched or unlatched properly. Our concern is that a manufacturer-certified vehicle was delivered to a consumer with an intermittently failing primary locking restraint mechanism. There should have been a 160-point inspection done before this car was delivered in order for it to be considered pre-ow…

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

It gets w…
