Owner report 11728337 · 2026-03-31 (March 31, 2026)

I was pulling into a parking spot and the emergency braking system applied the brakes very forcefully as if a collision was imminent. I backed up and saw nothing in the parking spot and then proceeded to pull back into the same spot with no issue. There was a loud and rhythmic thumping sound that I perceived as the abs system engaging. This is a rental car so I am returning it to the company, National rental car, and swapping out for a new vehicle. I contacted Mazda about this and was given a case # 00434431.

At 10:16 am, I was driving home on Hall Rd. in Michigan. Hall Road is currently under construction and only two lanes are open and the speed is 40mph. It was raining pretty hard and also very windy. I purchased this brand new 2023 Mazda CX-50 at the end of this July, and it has no incidents, no hits, no scratches at all. Last Sunday while driving it, out of no where, the 'Vehicle System Malfunction' message showed up and I dropped my car at the dealership right away. There was the weird sound from the front of the vehicle every time I braked to 10 mph, and I don't want to take risk of my own to drive it anymore. Two things here. One is when using adaptive cruise control; when there is a car in front that is going slower than your speed your car will slow down. But when it goes out of the way the car will just rev up as much as it can and just catch up to speed. My Camry before this had two options of speeding up; one slower than the other so it saves the transmission. Also, my engine would randomly be at higher rpm’s than usual when at park. It would idle higher than go lower than back and forth. I’ve experienced it during cruise control when randomly …

I brought my vehicle to Safford Mazda of Fredericksburg on Monday, December 15, 2025 due to a front-end clunking that occurs during left or right turns. A service representative test-drove the vehicle with me and was able to hear and duplicate the noise. To often does the safety system disable with what I'm told is dirt or fog by the dealer but I've had many newer vehicles with this safety suite of systems and none of them had this problem unless sensors cameras were full of snow. Possible camera or sensor issue not sure. My buddy has a Mazda cx5 never sees the system disable. Heavy rain does mine. Sometimes a little moisture and colder temperatures. I think it's worth investigating please. Thank you!

This report concerns the design of the front seat belt reminder system, which I believe creates a safety hazard. The audible warning begins the instant the engine starts , while the vehicle is stationary in Park , is very loud, and repeats indefinitely until the belt is latched. Federal Standard No. 208 requires only a short warning (up to 8 seconds); this immediate, persistent chime is a voluntary design choice. Other manufacturers (e.g., Honda) meet the same standard while chiming only once the vehicle is in motion, which is sufficient and f…

I own a brand-new 2026 Mazda CX-50 Hybrid that is currently under the manufacturer's warranty. I am reporting an intermittent failure of the vehicle to respond normally to a selected driving direction. During the first incident on August 28, 2026, I had shifted the vehicle into Reverse. The vehicle indicated that Reverse was selected, but when I pressed the accelerator, the vehicle did not move or respond as expected. I attempted to change the selected driving direction, but the vehicle was not responding normally to the shift commands.l, aga…

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.

I am reporting a severe safety defect on a brand-new Mazda CX-50 Turbo Premium Plus involving a complete failure and malfunction of the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), specifically the proximity, forward collision, parking collision, and automatic emergency braking sensors. The safety sensors continuously malfunction, creating an immediate and erratic hazard while driving. The chief concern is the risk of uncommanded, sudden automatic emergency braking at highway speeds, or the complete failure of critical safety warning systems duri…

We are having concerning issue with Mazda CX 50, 2026 hybrid. not going into reverse gear or stopping unexpectedly after attempting to shift to reverse. We recently took the vehicle to the Mazda dealership where we bought it.: Luther Mazda in [XXX]. After repeated attempts, they said they had no way to address the problem since they couldn’t re-create it. We reiterated that it just happened several times to us, but we cannot re-create it on demand. I sent the dealership the following information from the Internet, that was posted about the 2…

I parked this hybrid rental vehicle on a steep street facing uphill and remained in the car with it on for about 15 to 30 minutes. When I put the vehicle back in Drive, released the brake pedal, and pressed the gas pedal to drive away, the car quickly free-rolled backwards. There was no throttle response, and I had to quickly brake to stop the car from its quick backwards descent. Multiple attempts to correct the issue, including various combinations of placing the car back in Park and back in Drive, engaging the electronic parking brake, et…
