80V160000 · Power Train:Automatic Transmission

Reported: 1980-12-10 (December 10, 1980) · Model years: 1976

THE PLASTIC BELL CRANK BUSHING FOR THE PRESSURE CONTROL ROD OF THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION COULD DEFORM DUE TO HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT PRODUCED BY THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THIS CAN CAUSE THE CONTROL ROD TO DISLODGE. A DISLODGED ROD MAY PREVENT THE NEARBY ENGINE THROTTLE LINKAGE FROM RETURNING TO THE IDLE POSITION.

Remedy: THE DEALER WILL REPLACE THE PLASTIC BUSHING WITH A METAL ONE AT NO CHARGE.

78V106000 · Engine And Engine Cooling:Exhaust System:Emission Control

Reported: 1978-05-15 (May 15, 1978) · Model years: 1977, 1978

THE FUEL TANK COULD DEFORM DUE TO THE FUEL TANK VALVE CAUSING BLOCKAGE OF THE FUEL TANK VENTILATION SYSTEM.

Remedy: THE DEALER WILL INSPECT AND, IF NECESSARY, WILL REPLACE THE FUEL TANK VENT VALVE WITHOUT CHARGE.

THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFT LINKAGE ADJACENT TO THE ENGINE THROTTLE CONTROL CONTAINS A PLASTIC BUSHING THAT COULD DEFORM DUE TO HIGH ENGINE COMPARTMENT TEMPERATURES CREATED BY THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER.

Remedy: PLASTIC BUSHINGS WILL BE REPLACED WITH STEEL BUSHINGS.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
