Recall history

9 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

78V143000 · Fuel System, Gasoline:Storage:Tank Assembly

Reported: 1978-06-19 (June 19, 1978) · Model years: 1975, 1976

IN THE EVENT THE VEHICLE IS STRUCK FROM THE REAR, THE FUEL FILLER PIPE COULD DISCONNECT FROM THE TANK OR THE TANK COULD BE PUNCTURED IN THE FORWARD FACE. THIS WOULD RESULT IN FUEL LEAKAGE.

Remedy: THE DEALER WILL INSTALL A LONGER FUEL FILLER PIPE HAVING AN IMPROVED SEAL. ALSO, A POLYETHYLENE SHIELD WILL BE INSTALLED ON THE FRONT OF THE FUEL TANK.

76V170000 · Fuel System, Gasoline:Delivery:Hoses, Lines/Piping, And Fittings

78V069000 · Structure:Body:Bumpers

Reported: 1978-04-04 (April 4, 1978) · Model years: 1976

IN THE EVENT OF A FRONTAL IMPACT, FUEL LEAKAGE MAY OCCUR AT THE FUEL LINE TO FUEL PUMP CONNECTION IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THESE VEHICLES FAIL TO CONFORM TO FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 301, "FUEL SYSTEM INTEGRITY".

Remedy: DEALER WILL INSTALL A PAIR OF FRONT BUMPER BRACKET EXTENSION PLATES TO SUPPLY ADDED PROTECTION FOR THIS FUEL LINE CONNECTION.

76V140000 · Fuel System, Gasoline:Carburetor System

Reported: 1976-09-14 (September 14, 1976) · Model years: 1977

83V025000 · Engine And Engine Cooling:Cooling System:Fan

Reported: 1983-03-01 (March 1, 1983) · Model years: 1977, 1978, 1979

THE FLEXIBLE BLADE ENGINE COOLING FAN BLADES MAY CRACK AND BREAK OFF. THIS MAY BE CAUSED BY HIGH BLADE STRESSES THAT CAN RESULT FROM VIBRATION DURING VEHICLE OPERATION.

Remedy: DEALER WILL REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE ENGINE COOLING FAN AT NO COST TO OWNER.

NHTSA campaign record ↗
78V047000 · Seat Belts:Front:Retractor

Reported: 1978-03-08 (March 8, 1978) · Model years: 1978

THE AUTOMATIC LOCKING REAR SEAT BELT RETRACTORS ON CERTAIN VEHICLES MAY FAIL TO LOCK DUE TO BINDING OF THE LOCKING PAWL AGAINST THE RETRACTOR HOUSING. THIS BINDING IS CAUSED BY RETRACTOR HOUSING DEFORMATION WHICH OCCURRED DURING ASSEMBLY. AS A RESULT THE PASSENGERS WOULD BE RESTRAINED ONLY BY THE FULLY EXTENDED BELT. THIS FAILS TO COMPLY WITH FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 208, "OCCUPANT CRASH PROTECTION".

Remedy: DEALER WILL INSPECT AND, IF NECESSARY, REPLACE ONE OR BOTH REAR SEAT BELT ASSEMBLIES FREE OF CHARGE.

NHTSA campaign record ↗
79V012000 · Service Brakes, Hydraulic:Pedals And Linkages

Reported: 1979-01-09 (January 9, 1979) · Model years: 1979

SOME OF THE INVOLVED VEHICLES DO NOT HAVE THE HAIR PIN CLIP USED TO RETAIN THE PUSHROD TO THE BRAKE PEDAL PUSHROD PIN INSTALLED. IF THIS CLIP IS MISSING, THE PUSHROD MAY BECOME DISENGAGED FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL PUSHROD PIN.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT VEHICLES FOR THE PRESENCE OF THIS HAIR PIN CLIP AND, IF NECESSARY, ANY MISSING PARTS WILL BE INSTALLED AT NO COST TO OWNER.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
