THE TURBOCHARGER OIL INLET FITTING BEGAN LEAKING OIL (2-3 ML/MIN) ONTO THE HOT TURBOCHARGER, RESULTING IN SMOKE AND A STRONG OIL-BURNING SMELL. THE OEM TURBO INLET FITTING UTILIZES A POLYMER O-RING THAT FAILED DUE TO EXPOSURE TO HEAT FROM THE TURBO. THIS IS, APPARENTLY, A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE TURBOCHARGED MINI ENGINES. THIS IS DEFINITELY A FIRE HAZARD. *TR

VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AND CAUGHT FIRE UNDER THE HOOD. A FIRE EXTINGUISHER PUT IT OUT BUT I COULD SEE DAMAGED PARTS. I DROVE THE CAR TO FLOW MINI IN RALEIGH AND DROPPED IT OFF FOR REPAIRS. I WAS NOTIFIED THAT THE AUXILLERY WATER PUMP HAD SHORTED OUT THEN OVER HEATED AND CAUGHT ON FIRE. I GOOGLED MY VEHICLE NUMBER AND SAW RECALLS FOR CERTAIN MINIS. MINE FALLS INTO THE CATEGORY AND WAS NEVER CONTACTED ABOUT THIS BEING A FIRE HAZARD. WIFE WILL NOT DRIVE THE CAR ANY MORE.

A LOUD RATTLING NOISE IS HEARD AND FELT WHEN ENGINE IS FIRST STARTED AND LASTS UNTIL THE ENGINE STARTS TO WARM UP DEPENDING ON HOW QUICKLY THE ENGINE BEGINS TO WARM UP. IN MY EXPERIENCE, SEVERAL MINUTES OF RATTLING. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN ALL OF THE TIME. I'VE NOTIFIED THE DEALERSHIP (INSKIP MINI IN WARWICK, RI) MULTIPLE TIMES AND THE SERVICE MANAGER (JEFF S) SAID MINI IS AWARE OF THE COMPLAINT AND THERE ARE SEVERAL DIFFERENT REPAIRS FOR THIS ANOMALY,BUT WILL NOT EFFECT REPAIRS UNLESS THE RATTLE IS HEARD IN THE THEIR SHOP OR I CAN PROVIDE AUDI…

ENGINE MAKES A LOUD RATTLING NOISE LIKE IT HAS NO OIL PRESSURE, NOT JUST ON STARTUP BUT FOR AS LONG AS A FEW BLOCKS OF DRIVING. IT HAS DONE THIS 6 TIMES IN THE FIRST 2,000 MILES OF OWNERSHIP. I AM CONCERNED THAT SEVERE INTERNAL DAMAGE IS BEING DONE TO THE ENGINE IF I CONTINUE TO DIVE IT THIS WAY. DEALER SAYS THEY ARE AWARE OF PROBLEM BUT HAVE NO FIX FROM MFR, OR DO NOT HAVE A FIX THAT ACTUALLY SOLVES THE PROBLEM. *TR

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
