APPROXIMATELY 20 MINUTES AFTER PARKING MY VEHICLE, IT CAUGHT ON FIRE. A QUICK GOOLE SEARCH SHOWS THIS IS A KNOWN FAILURE IN THE WATER PUMP OF THE TURBO COOLER - THE ELECTRIC AUXILIARY WATER PUMP THAT COOLS THE TURBOCHARGER HAS AN ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT BOARD THAT CAN MALFUNCTION AND OVERHEAT. HOWEVER, MY VEHICLE WAS NEVER RECALLED, AND MINI NEVER SENT OUT ANY NOTICE THAT THIS WAS A POSSIBILITY.

THIS CAR ENGINE INCONSISTENTLY DIES, USUALLY IN FIRST OR SECOND GEAR, SOMETIMES WHEN THE CAR IS STOPPED (E.G. AT A RED LIGHT) AND SOMETIMES WHEN IT IS SLOWING DOWN (E.G. PULLING INTO A PARKING LOT), OR ACCELERATING (E.G. TAKING OFF FROM A RED LIGHT OR PULLING OUT OF A PARKING LOT). IT HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER'S 3 TIMES AND THEY CANNOT FIND THE PROBLEM--THE CAR HAS LESS THAN 4,000 MILES AND STARTED DOING THIS SOON AFTER PURCHASED. I HAVE THE DOCUMENTATION FROM THE 3 TRIPS TO THE SERVICE DEPT. BUT AM NOT SENDING THEM AT THIS TIME. HAS HAPPENED WITH…

OUR 2016 MINI COOPER JCW WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT, WHERE IT FAILED TO STOP, AND, IN FACT SEEMED TO ACCELERATE. A PREVIOUS VERSION WE OWNED DID THE SAME THING, SEVERAL YEARS AGO. A FEW DAYS AFTER THIS ACCIDENT, AN ARTICLE APPEARED IN THE NATIONAL MEDIA, DESCRIBING A SIMILAR ACCIDENT IN NEW YORK. IN THAT INSTANCE, THE CAR STRUCK WAS BEING DRIVEN BY THE ACTOR [XXX] , WHICH WAS WHY IT RECEIVED SO MUCH NATIONAL ATTENTION. OUR VEHICLE SUFFERED $7000 IN DAMAGE. NO AIR BAG DEPLOYED, AND IT WAS MOVING AT LESS THAN 5 MILES AN HOUR. WE HAVE HAD MULTIP…

I HAVE A 2009 MINI COOPER S. THE OVERHEAD PASSENGER AIRBAG DISABLE WARNING LIGHT COMES ON WHEN THERE IS AN ADULT SIZED PASSENGER RIDING IN THE VEHICLE. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY AND I HAVE WITNESSED IT ABOUT EIGHT TIMES BETWEEN 10/2/08 AND 11/26/08. WHEN THE WARNING LIGHT COMES ON, IT STAYS ON FOR THE DURATION OF THE TRIP. I HAVE TAKEN MY VEHICLE TO MINI SERVICE DEPARTMENT ON THREE OCCASIONS FOR A TOTAL OF 21 DAYS IN THE SHOP AND THEIR DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTER CANNOT IDENTIFY AN ERROR SO THE PROBLEM REMAINS UNRESOLVED. THIS IS A DEFECT…

UPON STARTING DEAD COLD ENGINE, A LOUD AND VIOLENT SYNCOPATED KNOCK (SIMILAR TO A METAL HAMMER HITTING METAL) EMANATES FROM THE ENGINE ON THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT SIDE, AND LASTS FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS. DEFECTIVE DESIGN OF TWO DEFLECTORS (UNDER THE VEHICLE'S FRONT BUMPER ' ONE ON EACH SIDE OF THE CAR) APPARENTLY DESIGNED TO FLEX WHEN, AS A RESULT OF THE VEHICLE'S LOW GROUND CLEARANCE, SUCH DEFLECTORS CONTACT THE GROUND DURING NORMAL OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE (E.G., ON DRIVEWAY APRONS, SPEED BUMPS, ETC.). INSTEAD OF FLEXING, THE DEFLECTORS REPEATEDLY FAIL AS A RESULT OF THEIR DEFECTIVE DESIGN. THE DEFLECTORS ARE OBVIOUSLY DESIGNED TO BE FLEXIBLE BY FUSING HARD RUBBER TO HARD PLASTIC. HOWEVER, INSTEAD OF FLEXING, THE DEFLECTORS FAIL AT THE SEA…

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
