Recall history

3 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

04V436000 · Structure:Body

Reported: 2004-09-08 (September 8, 2004) · Model years: 1996, 1997, 1998

ON CERTAIN TRUCKS, THE CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE CAB MAIN HOOK AND THE SURROUNDING COMPONENTS MAY BE INSUFFICIENT. REPEATED NORMAL CAB TILTING OPERATION COULD CAUSE THE CAB TILT SYSTEM COMPONENTS TO BECOME DAMAGED IN THE AREA OF THE CAB MAIN HOOK.

Consequence: IF DAMAGE OCCURS, THE CAB MAIN HOOK COULD LATCH IMPROPERLY, AND IN THE WORST CASE, THE CAB COULD TILT FORWARD DURING NORMAL VEHICLE OPERATION. A CRASH COULD OCCUR WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE CAB HOOK, LOCK LEVER AND CONTROL LEVER BRACKET WITH MODIFIED COMPONENTS. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 28, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT MITSUBISHI FUSO AT 1-877-711-0707.

04V437000 · Interior Lighting

Reported: 2004-09-09 (September 9, 2004) · Model years: 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004

ON CERTAIN TRUCKS, THE REBOUND CUSHION MAY STICK TO THE HOOK HINGE BRACKET, DUE TO IMPROPER RUBBER COMPOSITION OF THE CUSHION. THIS CONDITION COULD RESULT IN THE HOOK PIN BRACKET REMAINING IN THE UP (CAB CLOSED) POSITION WHEN THE CAB LATCH IS UNLOCKED. WITH THE HOOK PIN BRACKET IN THE UP POSITION, THE CAB TILT LOCK SWITCH REMAINS CLOSED, IMPROPERLY INDICATING THAT THE CAB LATCH IS LOCKED.

Consequence: IF THE CAB LATCH IS UNLOCKED FOR ANY REASON, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CAB LOCK INDICATOR WILL NOT NOTIFY THE DRIVER THAT THE CAB TILT LOCK MECHANISM IS IN THE UNLOCKED POSITION. A CRASH COULD OCCUR WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE REBOUND CUSHION WITH A MODIFIED COMPONENT AND ADJUST THE CABLE TILT LOCK SWITCH AND BOTTOM BRACKET AT THE REAR CAB MOUNT. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 28, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT MITSUBISHI FUSO AT 1-877-711-0707.

04V478000 · Suspension:Front:Hub

Reported: 2004-10-07 (October 7, 2004) · Model years: 2004

ON CERTAIN TRUCKS TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH AN F040T FRONT AXLE. THE FRONT WHEEL HUB OUTER BEARING LOCK NUT MAY HAVE BEEN IMPROPERLY TIGHTENED DURING ASSEMBLY, AND AN INSUFFICIENT AMOUNT OF GREASE MAY HAVE BEEN APPLIED TO THE OUTER BEARING.

Consequence: THESE CONDITIONS COULD RESULT IN THE OUTER BEARING GENERATING EXCESSIVE HEAT AND/OR BREAKING, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO BECOME DISABLED. THE EXCESSIVE HEAT COULD CAUSE A FIRE.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE INNER AND OUTER FRONT WHEEL HUB BEARINGS, AND REPLACE ANY BEARING WITH SIGNS OF DAMAGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 28, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT MITSUBISHI FUSO AT 1-856-467-4500.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
