Recall history
5 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.
01V160000 · Suspension
Reported: 2001-05-22 (May 22, 2001) · Model years: 1997, 1998
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: TRANSIT BUSES. THERE COULD BE A CASTING DEFECT IN THE LEFT SIDE SPRING TOWER. THE SPRING TOWERS SUPPORT THE VEHICLE STRUCTURE, AND FAILURE OF A TOWER COULD CAUSE A SUDDEN SHIFT IN THE FRONT AXLE.
Consequence: THIS CONDITION COULD LEAD TO LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE SPRING TOWER. OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING MAY 2001. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT NEW FLYER AT 1-204-982-8181.
NHTSA campaign record ↗07V068000 · Exterior Lighting
Reported: 2007-02-23 (February 23, 2007) · Model years: 1998
CERTAIN TRANSIT BUSES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 108, "LAMPS REFLECTIVE DEVICES, AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT." THE FLASHING DECELERATION LAMPS WERE AN OPTIONAL ITEM FOR SOME OF THESE BUSES.
Consequence: THE STANDARD REQUIRES THAT THE DECELERATION LAMP IS A SOLID LIGHT RATHER THAN A FLASHING LIGHT.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REWIRE THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM TO REMOVE THE FLASHING FUNCTION OR INSTALL A NEW PROGRAMMABLE LOGIC CONTROLLER (PLC) WHICH WILL MAKE THE LAMPS BURN STEADY FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON MARCH 5, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NEW FLYER AT 204-934-4874.
NHTSA campaign record ↗05V370000 · Engine And Engine Cooling:Cooling System:Fan
Reported: 2005-08-25 (August 25, 2005) · Model years: 2004, 2005
ON CERTAIN TRANSIT BUSES, HYDRAULIC FLUID CAN LEAK AT THE FLANGE FITTING DUE TO IMPROPER INSTALLATION PROCEDURES. INCORRECT INSTALLATION PROCEDURES MAY CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE O-RING OF THE FLANGE ASSEMBLY, COMPROMISING THE SEALING CAPABILITY OF THE O-RING.
Consequence: LEAKS CAUSED DUE TO DAMAGED O-RINGS COULD CAUSE HYDRAULIC FLUID TO BE SPRAYED ONTO HOT SURFACES AND IGNITE.
Remedy: NEW FLYER WILL CONTACT CUSTOMERS WITH PARTS AND INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO COMPLETE THIS RECALL. THE RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 30, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NEW FLYER AT 204-934-4874.
NHTSA campaign record ↗06V015000 · Service Brakes, Air:Supply:Check Valve
Reported: 2006-01-18 (January 18, 2006) · Model years: 2004, 2005
ON CERTAIN TRANSIT BUSES EQUIPPED WITH RELAY VALVES BUILT BY HALDEX/MIDLAND AND DISTRIBUTED BY MERITOR/WABCO WITH VALVE BODY DATE CODE OF 342A4K. THIS VALVE, WHICH IS INSTALLED IN THE REAR AXLE AIR BRAKE CIRCUIT, CAN FAIL RESULTING IN A LOSS OF AIR PRESSURE TO THE REAR SERVICE BRAKES.
Consequence: FAILURE OF THE VALVE WOULD DISABLE THE REAR AXLE SERVICE BRAKE CIRCUIT AND RESULT IN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCES WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT TO SEE IF THE INSTALLED RELAY VALVE HAS A DATE CODE OF 342A4K AND IF NECESSARY WILL REPLACE THE VALVE FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JANUARY 25, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NEW FLYER AT 204-934-4803.
NHTSA campaign record ↗17V130000 · Suspension:Front
Reported: 2017-03-01 (March 1, 2017) · Model years: 2006
New Flyer Industries Ltd (New Flyer) is recalling certain 2006 L40LFand DE60LF transit buses, 2006-2007 C35LF, C40LFR, D35LF, D40LFR, D60LFR, DE40LF and DE40LFR transit buses, and 2005-2007 C40LF, D40LF, D60LF, DE60LFA, GE40LF, 2007 D35LFR, and DE60LFR transit buses. Consequence: Failure of the front axle beam can cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: New Flyer will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the axle beams and determine a repair, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on March 10, 2017. Owners may contact New Flyer customer service at 1-204-224-6706. New Flyer's number for this recall is R17-002.

Problems by model year
Model-wide comparison of the eight most reported components across the model. Cells show counts and shares within each model year. Open a cell for source examples.

Darker cells indicate a larger share of submitted complaints. Components overlap. This measures complaint composition, not failure probability.

Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
Equal-age model-year comparison
Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
2005: 0 complaints · 2006: 0 complaints
| Model year | Through age 0 | Through age 1 | Through age 2 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2005 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| 2006 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Date coverage across each selected cohort
| Year | Incident dates used | Filing date fallbacks | Excluded dates |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2005 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| 2006 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
