Driving west on Interstate 80 in Iowa heading to South Dakota, when smoke started to appear in rear of motor home outside . Pulled over to find that diesel fuel was spraying all over the motor, very fortunate that it did not catch on fire. It is a Cummins 8.9 diesel motor # 73844606 . Contacted Cummins on this issue and they said there is no recall on this problem , because there is not enough engines h…

On Jan 2, 2021, I filed NHTSA complaint #11386115. To date I have heard nothing other than an acknowledgement of receipt of the complaint. I would like to point out that this problem is on-going, increasing in severity and number of occurrences, and can easily be considered a life safety issue. As I’m sure you are aware, vehicles conveying human beings are becoming randomly and unpredictability stranded due to faulty sensors on otherwise properly functioning emission systems. This problem is easily resolvable with a simple policy modification…

On 5/23 I started getting a code "SPN3031 FMI9" which says the DEF temperature is rising too fast, no other codes were present in the fault list (the engine was running at the time I grabbed the fault list). Adhesive inside the dashboard display is failing. It started at approximately 20,000 miles and has suddenly gotten much worse 1 year later at approximately 30,000 miles. This failure is causing "bubbles" in the display, which is interfering with the clarity/readability of the gauges, including the speedometer, which I consider to be a safety issue. Ultimately, I'm concerned that the screen may fail completely while I'm driving.

I was informed through a trade publication that Roadmaster had issued a recall of the towbar due to potential failure of a "roll pin" seated into a "stinger" assembly that could cause the towbar to separate and fail. I contacted Roadmaster on XXX, and recieved a response on XXX with vague and incomplete information relating to whether I could continue to use the towbar, although they described the matter as "urgent". The notice is at their webpage at [XXX] . I have inquired as to the proper method to inspect my towbar to determine if can con…

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

THIS IS A CLASS A MOTORHOME ON A FREIGHTLINER CHASSIS. WHEN RUNNING AT NIGHT WITH THE HEADLIGHTS ON THE ENTIRE DASH LIGHTS FLICKER AND GO OUT COMPLETELY LEAVING A DARK DASH WITH NO INSTRUMENTATION INCLUDING SPEEDOMETER. AFTER TALKING WITH NEWMAR CORP. THEY SAY IT IS A KNOWN SOFTWARE PROBLEM AND IS FREIGHTLINER'S RESPONSIBILITY. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE AND IT IS GOING ON A YEAR. WHEN THE LIGHTS GO OUT THE COACH IS COMPLETELY DARK AND YOU CANNOT TELL SPEED ON ANYTHING ELSE. THIS CAUSES A MAJOR PROBLEM AT NIGHT.

Had it towed to a licensed repair shop and the mechanic found that the # 1 fuel injector line had a hair line crack causing the fuel leak. Contacted Cummins on this issue and they said there is no recall on this problem , because there is not enough engines h…

On 5/23 I started getting a code "SPN3031 FMI9" which says the DEF temperature is rising too fast, no other codes were present in the fault list (the engine was running at the time I grabbed the fault list). Only the engine outline icon was lit. I had only driven 3 miles from my house to fill up the RV with fuel. I turned the engine off and restarted, getting the same code. After driving back home I pulled up the list again and it was the same. On 5/25 I contacted the local repair shop and they took my information. They called back on 5/2…
