THE NISSAN LEAF REPRESENTATIVE SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT WITH A LEAF MECHANIC HERE IN MIDLAND. I ARRIVED AT MY APPOINTMENT AND ASK THE MECHANIC IF HE WAS THE LEAF MECHANIC THAT I HAD THE APPOINTMENT WITH. HE ANSWERED YES. I TOOK HIM FOR A TEST DRIVE WHERE HE EXPERIENCED THE FRONT END PROBLEM. VEHICLE'S MAIN TRACTION BATTERY LOST 15% OF ITS USABLE CAPACITY AFTER ONLY 1 YEAR AND 3631 MILES OF VEHICLE USE. THIS RAPID LOSS IN BATTERY CAPACITY IS CONTRARY TO NISSAN'S ADVERTISED SERVICE LIFE OF 70%TO 80% CAPACITY AFTER 100,000 MILES. DEFECTIVE BATTERY COULD POTENTIALLY FAIL WHILE THE VEHICLE IS OPERATED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND CAUSE LOSS OF STEERING AND OR BRAKES. *TR

Never had an issue with defrost or heat on my 2024 Leaf until I had the recall P4A17 applied. At the last cold snap, the heater worked fine for about 15m and than stopped working, just blowing cold air. I switched it off and waited a bit, switched it back on and it worked again. Called my local Nissan dealer and they said that they are aware of the issue and Nissan working on a fix. Happened again today 11 Feb. another cold snap, 12F when I left the house. Heater worked fine. Again after about 15m only cold air.

The battery does not charge. Warning lights activated to check EV system. This first occurred about two months ago. Dash lights spontaneously resolved, but MIL light has remained on in Nissan App since that time. Dealership service initially said to return with vehicle when dash light and message reappeared. Potential garage/house or parking lot fire as there exist reports of 2026 LEAFs spontaneously combusting in North America. The problem is more serious when pulling the parking brake during overnight parking. Somehow the sound is coming out of front brakes. When the outside temperature is below freezing, the heater runs for about 10 minutes and then starts blowing nothing but cold air. This is not just an inconvenience and discomfort, but leads to distracted driving which could result in an accident. This problem has been widely discussed on the Leaf owners' forum online and was just acknowledged by my service representative at Valley Nissan in Longmont, CO. While driving on the highway with a full battery charge, the vehicle battery was suddenly depleted, the car entered "turtle mode" (a reduced motor power at low charge feature), and then turned off completely moments later. This is a huge safety issue as it leaves you to coast to a stop without the benefit of power brakes or steering. This is caused by a weak cell in the high voltage battery, an issue Nissan is aware of but has chosen not to address. The manufacturer-installed 40kWh replacement battery has suffered an internal high-voltage isolation short to the vehicle chassis (Codes P0AA6/P31E7), creating an immediate fire and shock hazard. The component failed just 2 years after installation in 2024. Nissan is refusing to repair this severe safety defect because the vehicle's original body frame is past its warranty window.

I have previously had an issue with low resistance of the high voltage battery. This resulted in the car giving a warning code that prevents the restart of the vehicle once it's turned off. This is itself potentially leaves a driver in an unsafe location if they are in an isolated place since you are also unable to charge. I took it to the dealer multiple times and it took them almost a month to determine the vehicle did have an issue, that it needed 8 modules out of around 24 total replaced. While driving during rainy conditions on January 19, the windshield wipers stopped working, resulting in obstructed view through front windshield while driving in the rain. Following, they worked intermittently for a week and then stopped working altogether. The exact failure has not been identified but is either a damage rod or non-functional motor; likely the motor as there is no noise coming from motor when the wipers are turned on. No warnings. We do not have a dealer within driving distance.

Car throws a B1018 DTC, which is for the passenger seat occupancy sensor. The seat occupancy sensor failing poses a major safety risk, as it causes the airbags to not deploy properly in the event of a crash. This is a very well known issue for the 2011-2012 LEAF, and the only option Nissan gives to fix this is a full seat replacement, which is cost prohibitive at over $3000. Previously, a recall was issued for 2013-2016 LEAFs for a similar issue, but the 2011-2012 was not included in that recall.

Instead, for the last year, Nissan's "remedy" has been to simply instruct Leaf owners to indefinitely refrain from DC fast-charging our vehicles. This instruction is not only logistically absurd - akin to telling the owners of gas vehicles that they can't visit gas stations for an entire year - but also financially damaging: it has rendered our vehicles tot…

The dealer diagnosed codes U1000 and U110D stored in the ABS module for lost communication with the intelligent brake module, performed an inspection, and …

My vehicle is subject to open NHTSA Recall 24V-700 (Nissan internal R24B2), for excessive lithium deposits in HV battery cells causing rapid heating during Level 3 DC fast charging, with a stated fire risk. At approximately 112,000 miles, my vehicle displayed the warning "Service EV System. Unable to restart after power off." I brought the vehicle to Dublin Nissan Service Department on July 2, 2026, where the dealer diagnosed a leak in the HV battery cells consistent with the defect described in Recall 24V-700. Nissan issued recall R24B2 on my Leaf 9 months ago. The recall warns my car could catch on fire when fast charging, but offers no remedy other than "don't fast charge it". Nissan keeps announcing remedy dates and missing them (October 2024, March 2025, now Q3 2025). I cannot drive my vehicle on a tri longer than one charge without the fast charge capability I was sold and bought - AND I am very concerned about the fire danger - there have been multiple incidents of Leaf's catching fire because of this recall. Car shifted into neutral at highway speeds and would not go back into drive on 3 separate occasions over the past 6 days. Car is an EV and there was no warning and the battery SOC was 50% or more on all occasions. Can can be shifted from neutral to park only, not drive or reverse. Very unsafe to have to cruise to a stop on busy highways without much or any shoulder depending on where the car stops with snow banks. Had to have car towed. On January 9, a little after 12:30 pm, on Indian Head Highway (MD route 210) northbound near the Manokeek exit, after limiting drive power owing to battery degradation and cold weather (about 30 F) drive power and power steering failed entirely. There was no warning to pull over so I suspect this is an undocumented failure mode. After the car was towed home, it would not charge when plugged in until after I disconnected the 12 v battery and reconnected it after about ten minutes. BRAKE APPLICATION IS AT TIMES VERY INCONSISTENT. ESPECIALLY AT LOW SPEEDS (<40MPH) SOMETIMES A LIGHT BRAKE APPLICATION CREATES A DISPROPORTIONAL BRAKE FORCE. THIS RESULTS IN SUDDEN INVOLUNTARY STOPS OFTEN ACCOMPANIED BY THE HEADS OF PASSENGERS AND DRIVER BEING JERKED FORWARD. THE ISSUE DOES NOT OCCUR ALL THE TIME BUT IS REPRODUCIBLE WITHIN A FEW MINUTES OF DRIVING. *TR

WHILE IN A LINEUP OF CARS AT A STOP SIGN INTERSECTION, I HAD TO START AND STOP REPEATEDLY, AS EACH CAR MOVED FORWARD. VERY SOON, THE BRAKES DEVELOPED A JERKY RESPONSE, GRABBING AND RELEASING. SO THE CAR WAS LURCHING FORWARD AND JERKING TO A STOP. IT WAS QUITE EMBARRASSING, AND THE CAR BEHIND ME NEARLY REAR-ENDED ME. THIS WAS THE FIRST OCCURRENCE, AND THE SAME THING HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE. THE BRAKES ARE NOT CONSISTENT - SOMETIMES THEY GRAB COMPLETELY AND A COUPLE OF TIMES I HAVE COMPLETELY LOST BRAKING POWER FOR A FEW MOMENTS. THE ISS…

MY CAR REQUIRES ME TO WAIT AFTER PUSHING THE START BUTTON BEFORE I CAN SHIFT INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE. IF I DO NOT WAIT, THEN THE CAR SKIPS D OR R AND SHIFTS INTO THE NEUTRAL EVEN WHEN I SELECT THE GEAR SHIFTER TO R OR D. I HAVE EXPLAINED THIS SITUATION TO MY LOCAL AUSTIN NISSAN DEALER ON 5/28/15. IT WAS EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THIS IS NORMAL. I CONSIDER THIS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE WHEN I START MY CAR ON AN INCLINE OR HILL AND ATTEMPT TO SHIFT TO D OR R. IF I DO NOT WAIT, THEN THE CAR ROLLS DOWNHILL IN NEUTRAL, REGARDLESS IF I SHIFT TO D OR R. …

WHEN I ACCELERATED FROM A STOP ON A CITY STREET TO TURN LEFT ON MY WAY HOME THE ENGINE LOST POWER EVEN AS I PUSHED THE ACCELERATED PEDAL MORE TILL THE CAR ALMOST STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TURN. ENGINE RETURNED TO NORMAL ACCELERATION POWER AFTER I PREPARED TO PULL OVER OUT OF TRAFFIC. NO WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON.

I HAVE RUN INTO WHAT I BELIEVE IS A SMALL DESIGN FLAW. SCENARIO: 1) LEAF IS PARKED IN CONDO PARKING GARAGE WITH GENTLE UPHILL SLOPE ON PARKING SPACE. 2) STARTUP SOUND IS TURNED OFF. 2) FORGET THE LEAF IS STILL PLUGGED IN TO AV L2 EVSE. 3) PUT FOOT ON BRAKE, PUSH START BUTTON. 4) SHIFT INTO REVERSE, NOT LOOKING AT DASH SCREEN TO SEE WARNING THAT LEAF WON'T START. 5) PRESS DOWN ON PARKING BRAKE LEVER TO DISENGAGE PARKING BRAKE. 6) PRESS ACCELERATOR. RESULT: THE LEAF DOESN'T START SINCE IT IS STILL PLUGGED IN TO E…

I WAS COMING TO A STOP SIGN THERE WAS A LITTLE SAND ON THE ROAD AND THE CAR STARTED TO SKID IN THE FRONT WHEELS. I LET GO OF THE BRAKE BUT THE WHEELS DID NOT STOP BRAKING. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME YOU TRY AND STOP HARD EVEN ON CLEAN DRY PAVEMENT. THE FRONT WHEELS LOCK UP AND DON'T UNLOCK EVEN WITH YOUR FOOT OFF THE BRAKES. THIS WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT ONE DAY WHEN SOMEONE IS FOLLOWING ME. I HAVE ALSO HAD 4 INSTANCES ONE WHICH LEFT ME STRANDED WHERE I CAN FEEL A DRAG ON THE CAR AND THE BATTERY DRAINS TWICE AS FAST. I HAVE TRIED TO TURN OFF THE TR…

The power steering has intermittently been de-activating. There is a warning light that comes on (yellow triangle with an exclamation mark). When this happens it causes the steering wheel to feel like it’s pulls in a direction. After we suddenly lose power steering with no warning we’re left to drive a car with no power steering until it suddenly re-engages. There has been no rhyme or reason to when this happens. The issue has been diagnosed at a factory dealership. The car has not sustained any accident (ever) in the +/- 4 years we’ve ow…

It would then charge and after a few minutes I checked and it wou…
