I HAVE EXPERIENCED FAILURE OF THREE BRAKES ON MY 2002 TRAVEL TRAILER. THE FAILURE WAS SEPARATION OF THE BRAKE LINING FROM THE BRAKE SHOE. AS MANUFACTURED THE LININGS ARE BONDED TO THE BRAKE SHOE. IN EACH CASE IT WAS THE LEADING SHOE THAT EXPERIENCED LINING DE-BONDING. THE FIRST FAILURE OF A RIGHT SIDE BRAKE OCCURRED ABOUT TWO YEARS AFTER DELIVERY, IT WAS FOUND BECAUSE IT SMELLED VERY HOT. THE FAILURE WAS ASSUMED TO BE RANDOM IN NATURE, BOTH SHOES AT THAT ONE WHEEL POSITION WERE REPLACED. I ESTIMATE THE TRAILER HAD ABOUT 2000 MILES OF USE…

INSIGNIFICANT THICKNESS OF THE SHOCK ABSORBER BRACKETS RESULTED IN BRACKET FAILURE WITH RELATED TIRE BLOW OUTS. CONSUMER NOTICED FRACTURED BRACKET WHILE PARKED IN A REST STOP BEFORE IT CAUSED THE LEFT FRONT TIRE TO BLOW OUT. CONSUMER HAD A CONFORMATION FORM WHERE THE MANUFACTURER INDICATED THAT WRONG MATERIAL BRACKET WAS USED. THE BRACKET SHOULD HAVE BEEN BE 3 1/16 INCHES THICK, BUT IT WAS ONLY 1 1/8 INCHES THICK. *AK

Darker cells indicate a larger share of submitted complaints. Components overlap. This measures complaint composition, not failure probability.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
