Recall history

6 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

80V027000 · Structure:Frame And Members

Reported: 1980-03-14 (March 14, 1980) · Model years: 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978

THE FRONT RAIL EXTENSION MAY EXPERIENCE FATIGUE CRACKING NEAR THE AREA WHERE THE POWER STEERING GEAR ATTACHES TO THE FRAME. IF THE CRACK PROGRESSES THROUGH MOST OR ALL OF THE RAIL SECTION, STEERING SYSTEM FREE PLAY ACCOMPANIED BY METALLIC RATTLE NOISE WILL BE EXPERIENCED.

Remedy: AFFECTED VEHICLES WILL BE WELD REPAIRED AND A REINFORCEMENT ROD WILL BE INSTALLED OVER THE CRACKED AREA.

79V105000 · Service Brakes, Hydraulic:Foundation Components:Hoses, Lines/Piping, And Fittings

Reported: 1979-04-30 (April 30, 1979) · Model years: 1978

THE FRONT BRAKE HOSE ROUTING MAY ALLOW INTERFERENCE BETWEEN THE HOSES AND THE TIRE AND WHEEL ASSEMBLIES DURING EXTREME TURNING ANGLES.

Remedy: DEALER WILL REPLACE BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT FRONT BRAKE HOSES AND INSTALL A NEW BRAKE HOSE SUPPORT BRACKET TO ELIMINATE CONTACT WITH TIRE/WHEEL.

79V104000 · Suspension:Front:Control Arm:Lower Arm

Reported: 1979-04-30 (April 30, 1979) · Model years: 1979

LOWER CONTROL ARMS MAY FRACTURE IN THE AREA ADJACENT TO THE LOWER BALL JOINT, RESULTING IN SEPARATION OF THE BALL JOINT FROM THE ARM.

Remedy: DEALER WILL INCREASE THE STRENGTH OF BOTH LOWER CONTROL ARMS BY INSTALLING WELDED REINFORCEMENTS.

NHTSA campaign record ↗
79V176000 · Equipment:Appliance:Air Conditioner

Reported: 1979-07-24 (July 24, 1979) · Model years: 1979

CONDENSATE WATER MAY ACCUMULATE IN THE AIR CONDITIONING BLOWER HOUSING; THERE IS A HIGH PROBABILITY THAT THIS WATER WILL CAUSE THE BLOWER MOTOR TO FAIL. BLOWER MOTOR FAILURE WOULD DISABLE THE AIR CONDTIONING UNIT AND THERE WOULD BE NO WAY TO DEFROST OR DEFOG THE WINDSHIELD.

Remedy: DEALER WILL DRILL A 1/4 INCH DRAIN HOLE IN THE BOTTOM OF THE AIR CONDITIONING BLOWER HOUSING TO PREVENT WATER ACCUMULATION, WITHOUT CHARGE TO OWNER.

NHTSA campaign record ↗
80V064000 · Structure:Body:Door:Hinge And Attachments

Reported: 1980-05-20 (May 20, 1980) · Model years: 1980

THE HINGE AND ROLLER ASSEMBLIES SUPPORTING THE REAR OF THE SLIDING SIDE DOOR MAY BE SUBJECT TO FAILURE AS A RESULT OF PROCESSING DEFICIENCIES IN THE ALUMINUM HINGE BODY.

Remedy: UPON INSPECTION ALL ALUMINUM HINGE BODIES WILL BE REPLACED WITH SINTERED METAL COMPONENTS.

NHTSA campaign record ↗
81V019000 · Fuel System, Gasoline:Storage:Tank Assembly

Reported: 1981-01-09 (January 9, 1981) · Model years: 1981

CERTAIN VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH OPTIONAL STEP TYPE REAR BUMPER AND A 22-GALLON STEEL FUEL TANK MAY NOT COMPLY WITH REAR IMPACT TEST REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 301, "FUEL SYSTEM INTEGRITY". IF THE VEHICLE IS INVOLVED IN A COLLISION, FUEL SPILLAGE COULD OCCUR.

Remedy: THE 22-GALLON STEEL FUEL TANK AND ASSOCIATED PLUMBING AND HARDWARE COMPONENTS WILL BE REPLACED WITH A 36-GALLON PLASTIC FUEL TANK, INCLUDING PLUMBING AND HARDWARE.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
