During normal operation of the this vehicle, the seatbelt pretensioner cable snapped when the driver attempted to buckle the seatbelt. This is where the lap belt portion is attached to the seat. The cable is frayed and breaks. This same defect has occurred on 5 of our 34 vehicles of the same make and model in the last 12 months. The manufacturer has replaced the first four failures and advised that we need to pay for the repair. This is a Rivian produced Amazon delivery vehicle. Online forums show this being reported by Amazon drivers thr…

The main seatbelt anchor cable (located near the drivers left side hip) broke during operation. This is a steel braided cable that secures the seatbelt to the seat. All strands of the cable severed entirely and left the driver unrestrained during operation. The broken part has been replaced by Rivian service. This is the third different vehicle in the last 30 days that this part has failed in the exact same manner.

Driver of van called to report seatbelt would not latch; release button was stuck and would not release. They called Rivian Support, and they had van towed back to station as without seatbelt working properly, would be unsafe for driver to continue.

We have a fleet of these Rivian delivery vehicles and they all have the same issue: the shift lever is made of inferior materials and insufficiently designed. The operator manipulates the shift lever to place the vehicle in drive and the lever breaks off. The vehicle is then stuck in gear and cannot be shifted. This is causing near miss incidents due to the operator being unable to safely control the vehicle. Example: operator places the vehicle in "D" to drive forward but is then unable to place the vehicle in "R" to reverse backward, or to pl…

I lease 36 of these vehicles and at least 50% have had issues with the Shifter. The shifter (putting the vehicle into D, R, or any other position) will fail unexpectedly. It is not broken or seems to have any visible damage. It will leave the vehicle stranded anywhere in the middle of the road, highway, parking lot, etc. When 50% of the vehicles and counting have the same issue then is a manufacturing issue that should be covered under warranty. This has been escalated to Rivian and their position is that they fail for excessive force. This is …

During inspection we found the rear axle of this vehicle has a crack through it traveling vertically through the axle. The break is on the driver side rear of the vehicle and extends about 80% up the entire axle width. The attached images are taken from the rear of the vehicle.

The new Amazon Rivian EDV vans lack passenger-side airbags. Amazon is requiring Driver Trainers to sit in the passenger "jump seat" for 3+ hours a day for on-the-road training tests. The government requires front airbags for both the driver & passenger, yet Amazon is requiring Driver Trainers to sit in a seat without proper safety protections. The van also has a blue metal pole in front of the passenger seat that people could hit their heads on, and there is a hard surface behind the head that could be hit during whiplash. If the government req…

The vehicle shifter tends to easily break and wiggle, not allowing the vehicle to go on drive or reverse. SAFETY concern, Rivian charges around $600+ every time you have this consistent problem. Severe vehicles, especially from Amazon have been called out for this ongoing situation.

The seat belt anchor for the lap belt has separated from the anchor point. It appears the cable is pulling apart as can be seen in photos I will be attaching. This is a huge safety concern however Rivian is telling us this is from a driver sitting on the seat belt. I am denying this accusation because we have cab facing cameras that detect this kind of behavior.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
