Recall history

3 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

01V249000 · Trailer Hitches:Fifth Wheel Assembly

Reported: 2001-08-01 (August 1, 2001) · Model years: 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: SINGLE AXLE TRAILER CONVERTER DOLLIES WITH TILTSTOP TYPE COUNTERBALANCE. FATIGUE CRACKS IN THE TILTSTOP CAN OCCUR.

Consequence: THE TILTSTOP COULD BREAK LOOSE FROM THE DOLLY FRAME WHILE IN OPERATION.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL ADD A BRACE TO BOTH SIDES OF THE DOLLY. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN AUGUST 16, 2001. OWNERS WHO DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT SILVER EAGLE AT 1-800-547-6792.

03V359000 · Service Brakes, Air:Antilock:Abs Warning Light

Reported: 2003-10-06 (October 6, 2003) · Model years: 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003

ON CERTAIN CONVERTER DOLLIES EQUIPPED WITH BENDIX EC-30T ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNITS (ECU). IF THE TRAILER-MOUNTED ABS WARNING LAMP CIRCUIT EXPERIENCES AN ELECTRICAL SHORT AND THE SHORT IS NOT REPAIRED, THE HIGH SIDE POWER SWITCH INSIDE THE ECU THAT CONTROLS THE ILLUMINATION OF THE TRAILER-MOUNTED ABS WARNING LAMP MAY EVENTUALLY BECOME THERMALLY STRESSED AND EXPERIENCE AN ELECTRICAL SHORT.

Consequence: IF THE POWER SWITCH SHORTS, IT CAN RESULT IN AN OVER-CURRENT CONDITION IN THE ECU AND LEAD TO EXCESSIVE HEAT, SMOKE, AND POSSIBLE FIRE.

Remedy: BENDIX WILL PROVIDE A REMEDY KIT AND DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS AND ALSO PROVIDE A LABOR ALLOWANCE FOR THE REPAIR. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT BENDIX AT 1-800-478-1793 OR SILVER EAGLE AT 1-800-547-6792.

15V362000 · Service Brakes, Air

Reported: 2015-06-10 (June 10, 2015) · Model years: 2014, 2015

Silver Eagle Manufacturing Company (Silver Eagle) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 VAST-20N, VAST-20W, and CTL-40W Converter Dollies manufactured February 6, 2014, to March 4, 2015. Due to a problem with the brake valve, the affected dollies may experience brake drag.

Consequence: If the brakes drag on the converter dolly, the wheel end may overheat, increasing the risk of a fire.

Remedy: Silver Eagle will notify owners, and dealers will replace the brake valve, free of charge. The recall began on July 8, 2015. Owners may contact Silver Eagle customer service at 1-800-547-6792.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
