Recall history
7 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.
00V080000 · Fuel System, Gasoline:Storage:Tank Assembly
Reported: 2000-03-17 (March 17, 2000) · Model years: 1998, 1999, 2000
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: HEAVY DUTY TRUCK MODELS WITH 111", 113", AND 122" CABS. THE FUEL TANK STEPS CAN DEVELOP FATIGUE CRACKS DUE TO EXCESSIVE OVERHANG.
Consequence: THE STEPS COULD FAIL.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE STEP ASSEMBLY FOR OVERHANG AND ADD AN END SUPPORT OF THE TRAILING EDGE OF THE FUEL TANK STEP, IF NECESSARY. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN NOVEMBER 2, 2001. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT FREIGHTLINER AT 1-800-547-0712.

Reported: 2000-04-07 (April 7, 2000) · Model years: 1998
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: CONVENTIONAL HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS. THE TIE ROD CROSS TUBES COULD FRACTURE DUE TO FATIGUE CAUSED BY A SYSTEM RESONANCE.
Consequence: LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL COULD OCCUR, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REMOVE AND REPLACE THE 1 1/2 INCH TIE ROD CROSS TUBES WITH A 1 3/4" TUBE.
NHTSA campaign record ↗00V397000 · Exterior Lighting:Turn Signal:Switch
Reported: 2000-11-29 (November 29, 2000) · Model years: 1998, 1999, 2000
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS. A LOSS OF THE TURN SIGNAL FUNCTION CAN OCCUR DUE TO A TURN SIGNAL FLASHER THAT IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCHES THAT ALLOW THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO OVERRIDE THE HAZARD WARNING LIGHTS. IF THE HAZARD WARNING LIGHTS ARE ON AND THE BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ACTIVATED, THE TURN SIGNAL FLASHER SENSES AN OVERLOAD CONDITION AND BECOMES DISABLED UNTIL ALL ELECTRIC LOADS ARE REMOVED.
Consequence: FOLLOWING DRIVERS MAY NOT BE AWARE OF THE TRUCK'S TURNING INTENTIONS INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A TURN SIGNAL FLASHER THAT IS COMPATIBLE WITH TURN SIGNAL SWITCHES THAT ALLOW THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO OVERRIDE THE HAZARD WARNING LIGHTS.
NHTSA campaign record ↗03V112000 · Suspension:Front:Hub
Reported: 2003-03-21 (March 21, 2003) · Model years: 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001
ON CERTAIN TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH TRUCK HUB UNITS MANUFACTURED BY SKF EXCLUSIVELY FOR USE ON ARVINMERITOR'S FF98X SERIES NON-DRIVE STEER AXLES, THE HUB UNIT BEARINGS CAN WEAR PREMATURELY.
Consequence: SEIZURE OF THE BEARINGS CAN CAUSE WHEEL SEPARATION OR WHEEL END FIRE.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE BOTH FRONT HUBS. OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR BEFORE SEPTEMBER 20, 2003. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT FREIGHTLINER AT 1-800-547-0712.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: TRUCKS, SCHOOL BUS AND MOTOR HOME CHASSIS, AND TRANSIT BUSES EQUIPPED WITH TIE ROD ASSEMBLIES MANUFACTURED BY TRW. THE SUSPECT TIE RODS CONTAIN 24-DL MODEL BALL SOCKETS. CERTAIN OF THE TIE ROD BALL-SOCKET BEARINGS HAVE A BELOW-SPECIFICATION CASE DEPTH AND/OR HARDNESS, WHICH CAN LEAD TO PREMATURE WEAR OF THE SOCKET.
Consequence: IF THIS CONDITION OCCURS, THE DRIVER CAN LOSE PARTIAL CONTROL OF THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE BALL SOCKETS AND/OR DRAG LINKS. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN MAY 22, 2001. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT FREIGHTLINER AT 1-800-547-0712 OR TRW CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-866-280-3287.

ON CERTAIN TRUCK-TRACTOR MODEL VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH CONMET SIMPLEX STATIONARY OR SLIDING FIFTH-WHEEL, THE CLINCH PINS THAT RETAIN THE FIFTH-WHEEL PIVOT PINS MAY NOT BE FULLY INSTALLED.
Consequence: THE FIFTH WHEEL COULD SEPARATE FROM THE VEHICLE INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE FIFTH WHEEL TO VERIFY THE CORRECT INSTALLATION OF THE CLINCH PIN AND PIVOT PIN. MISSING PINS WILL BE REPLACED. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN NOVEMBER 15, 2002. Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
Equal-age model-year comparison
Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
2001: 0 complaints · 2002: 0 complaints
| Model year | Through age 0 | Through age 1 | Through age 2 |

| 2001 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| 2002 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Date coverage across each selected cohort
| Year | Incident dates used | Filing date fallbacks | Excluded dates |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2001 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| 2002 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
