Recall history

4 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

12V038000 · Exterior Lighting:Brake Lights:Switch

Reported: 2012-02-03 (February 3, 2012) · Model years: 2012

SUZUKI IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2012 AN400, AN650, AND DL650 SCOOTERS AND MOTORCYCLES MANUFACTURED PRIOR TO DECEMBER 17, 2011, BECAUSE THE LEVER-MOUNTED BRAKE LIGHT ACTUATING SWITCH(ES) MAY FAIL.

Consequence: ON THE AN400 AND AN650 MODELS, FAILURE OF THE SWITCHES WILL PREVENT THE SCOOTERS FROM STARTING. ON ALL OF THE AFFECTED MODELS, FAILURE OF THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH(ES) MAY CAUSE THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN A SCOOTER OR MOTORCYCLE IS BRAKING, THEREBY INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH WITH A TRAILING VEHICLE.

Remedy: SUZUKI WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND SUZUKI DISTRIBUTORS WILL REPLACE THE BRAKE LIGHT ACTUATING SWITCH, FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 13, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT SUZUKI AT 1-714-996-7040.

15V852000 · Engine And Engine Cooling:Engine

Reported: 2015-12-18 (December 18, 2015) · Model years: 2012, 2013, 2014

Suzuki Motor of America, Inc. (Suzuki) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 SFV650 and AN650A, and 2012-2014 DL650A motorcycles. Contamination from component production and storage combined with manufacturing variations may result in excessive tappet and camshaft wear within the engines of the affected motorcycles.

Consequence: The excessive wear may result in an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Suzuki will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the tappet clearance, replacing the tappets and camshafts, as necessary. All motorcycles that have less than 2500 miles will have their tappets and camshafts replaced since wear may not be evident. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on February 5, 2016. Owners may contact Suzuki customer service at 1-714-996-7040. Suzuki's number for this recall is 2A50, 2A51, and 2A52.

Reported: 2016-12-06 (December 6, 2016) · Model years: 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016

Suzuki Motor of America, Inc. (Suzuki) is recalling certain model year 2012-2016 DL650 motorcycles manufactured August 30, 2011, to October 12, 2015. In the affected motorcycles, the alternator stator may have insufficient heat resistance, resulting in a short circuit of the stator wires.

Consequence: A short circuit of the stator wires may prevent the battery from properly charging, causing an engine stall and increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Suzuki will notify owners, and dealers will replace the stator, free of charge. The recall began on January 6, 2017. Owners may contact Suzuki customer service at 1-714-572-1490. Suzuki's number for this recall is 2A67.

18V694000 · Fuel System, Gasoline:Delivery:Fuel Pump

Reported: 2018-10-04 (October 4, 2018) · Model years: 2017, 2018

Suzuki Motor of America, Inc. (Suzuki) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Suzuki DL650A, DL650XA, GSX-R1000, GSX-R1000R, and 2018 GSX-S750 motorcycles. During installation, the fuel pump O-ring may have been twisted, reducing the sealing performance and possibly resulting in a fuel leak.

Consequence: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a fire.

Remedy: Suzuki will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel pump O-ring and the fuel tank inner vessel, free of charge. The recall began October 31, 2018. Owners may contact Suzuki customer service at 1-800-934-0934. Suzuki's numbers for this recall are 2A86-2A88.

ABS pump issue, very likely clogged valves, lead to rear brake pedal locked up in disengaged position while riding - no rear brakes. When I was riding at moderate speed, the ABS module engaged after the rear wheel slid a little on a patch of grass. Immediately afterwards I found the rear brake pedal became stiff, and one more test brake later the rear brake pedal became rock solid, and I cannot engage the rear brake anymore while riding. Upon further investigation with mechanics, what happened was the valves on the ABS module were clogged dur…

This motorcycle has been garage kept. It is in mint condition with 2114 miles on the odometer. It was purchased new in 2018. In 2024 the ABS light on the instrumentation illuminated. I tested the brakes to see if the ABS still worked, but it does not work. The rear tire can be locked up to skid, and the ABS does nothing. It used to work in years prior, as I had tested it in the past by applying heavy rear brakes. According to the manual, the error code #35 indicates a faulty ABS unit. The trouble-shooting is to test for 12 volts a…

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.

MOTORCYCLE IS 2 WEEKS OLD / 1,900 MILES TOTAL: THE MOTORCYCLE HAS BEEN STALLING UNDER CERTAIN SPECIFIC CONDITIONS. ONCE THE ENGINE IS WARM, AND I ATTEMPT TO DOWNSHIFT MULTIPLE GEARS AT A TIME, THE BIKE MAY STALL WHILE THE CLUTCH IS PULLED IN. AS AN EXAMPLE, I MAY BE RIDING IN 6TH GEAR AND WILL SLOW USING MY BRAKES ONLY (NOT ENGINE BRAKING). I WILL CLOSE THE THROTTLE COMPLETELY, CLUTCH IN, AND THEN DOWNSHIFT TO 5TH, 4TH, 3RD SEQUENTIALLY WITHOUT RELEASING THE CLUTCH BETWEEN GEARS. THERE WILL BE A POP COMING FROM UNDER THE SEAT, AND THE BIKE…
