I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW SUZUKI GSXR 600 ON 03/27/2003. I TOOK IT FOR IT'S FIRST TEST DRIVE ON 03/28/2003. NINE MILES INTO THE TRIP I ALMOST CRASHED ON THE OFF RAMP OF THE INTERSTATE AS THE MOTORCYCLE STOPPED WORKING WHILE DRIVING. I PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND FOUND THE GAS I HAD SMELLED WHILE DRIVING WAS SUDDENLY MUCH STRONGER. I THEN REALIZED I WAS COVERED IN GASOLINE, THE BIKE WAS DRENCHED IN GASOLINE, AND I HAD BEEN SPRAYING GASOLINE DOWN THE ROAD THE WHOLE TIME I WAS DRIVING. I WAS PICKED UP BY THE MERCHANT WHO SOLD ME THE …
THE CLUTCH BASKET BREAKS PIECES OF METAL OFF IN THE MOTOR WHICH COULD RESULT IN ENGINE FAILURE AND LOCK-UP. THIS IS JUST LIKE THE PROBLEM HONDA HAD WITH THE CBR 929. PEOPLE CAN DIE WHEN THIS HAPPENS. SUZUKI WILL NOT RELEASE HOW MANY CASES THEY HAVE HAD, AND SAY THAT IT IS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. *AK

THERE HAVE BEEN AN ALARMING NUMBER OF REPORTED SUBFRAME FAILURES ON 1999 AND 2000 MODEL SUZUKI GSX1300R'S. THESE ARE ALUMINUM AND ARE PRONE TO BREAKING AT OR NEAR THE WELDS. I DO HAVE AN AFTERMARKET EXHAUST SYSTEM ON MY BIKE. SUZUKI "SAYS" THAT THE FACTORY EXHAUST SUPPORTS THE SUBFRAME AND THERE IS NO PROBLEM. SEEMS LIKE TOTAL B.S. TO ME SINCE ALL 2001 AND 2002 HAYABUSA'S COME WITH A STEEL SUBFRAME! I HAVE NOT HAD A FAILURE, BUT I DO NOT WISH TO HAVE ONE AND END UP BADLY HURT OR DEAD. I WILL NOT ALLOW MY WIFE(OR ANYONE ELSE) TO RIDE AS PASSENGE…

Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
