Owner report 11734065 · 2026-04-27 (April 27, 2026)

In April 13th, 2026 while driving from the house through community, I suddenly stopped at the cross roads due to unexpected conditions. During this event, a coffee mug placed in the cup holder tipped over and spilled liquid onto the center console area, near the phone charging pad and critical control panel used for gear selection and essential driving functions. In about 15 minutes after the spill, when I reached the highway at about 70 mph, the vehicle experienced a rapid and severe system-wide failure. The dashboard displayed multiple warning…

There is an issue with the GPS in that the location is not accurate, sometimes it is off by 10-20 feet, enough to put it on a different road, sometimes it's off by 100s of feet. This is very dangerous as when using Autopilot, it uses map data to set the cruising speed, and if the GPS is reporting the car is on a different road, the speed can change to being faster or slower than the actual road the car is on. This results in sudden braking. The car will be on the highway, traveling at 55MPH, and then all of a sudden the GPS thinks its on a side…

Tesla has replaced the stalk, normally used for turn signals, into touch screen buttons on the steering wheel. It is very difficult to use these buttons to switch on the turn signal, especially if the steering is not pointing absolutely straight. In other words, if the steering is turned at even a small angle, it becomes almost impossible to press the correct touch screen button without looking down and therefore compromising attention to the road. This can be dangerous, especially at higher speeds, when a fraction of a second delay in respo…

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding ongoing safety and service issues with my 2024 Tesla Model X. This is the third Tesla vehicle we’ve owned, and while our previous two vehicles performed excellently, this one has presented serious and recurring problems with the Full Self-Driving (FSD) system. Since the second service visit, we have experienced four separate incidents in which the vehicle has either driven off the road or abruptly slammed on the brakes without warning. Despite two prior service appointments at the Tesla Service…

This happened to me with my previous model x (bought back by tesla in a lemon case for the same issue), happened to me also in a loaner car they gave me while trying to fix this issue and now again in a recently purchased model x. In both cases Tesla replaced the steering yoke and that didn’t solved the issue This is a serious safety issue that left me frustrated and with no solution from Tesla. Vehicle repeatedly applied the brakes while on cruise control. This sometimes seemed to be a response to other vehicles approaching in the oncoming traffic lane, but sometimes seemed totally unexpected. Once, the vehicle even sounded the collision alarm when no collision danger was present. If someone had been following me closely, the inexplicable braking could have caused an accident. A search of Tesla forums shows this is a common problem with these vehicles.

Using Tesla Autopilot I was passing a semi truck on Ohio Turnpike and as I was right next to the semi truck my Tesla suddenly started to flash red warning light and make a loud squealing sound and began to rapidly decelerate. Luckily no one was right behind us or likely a rear collision would have occurred. The semi truck was a little closer than normal to me but was still within its lane. This happened twice that day so I stopped using Autopilot as it was dangerous and very frightening to me and my passenger.

Incident Description: I was driving on the highway using Tesla Full Self-Driving (FSD) / FSD Supervised at approximately 65+ mph. Traffic conditions were moderate, and weather and visibility conditions were clear. While FSD was actively engaged, my phone began ringing. As I briefly attempted to silence the ringing phone, the FSD system unexpectedly disengaged/canceled during highway driving. I did not receive sufficient audible warning, advance notification, or adequate transition time to safely assume full manual control of the vehicle. Ther…

In January my parents Tesla in self driving mode drove them straight through a building. The breaks didn't deploy, the airbags didn't deploy and the steering wheel was shaking and unresponsive. Thankfully no one was seriously injured. That said, there was a lot of physical damage to the restaurant/building and the car was completely totaled. We are certain that there were catastrophic failures with the car that caused the accident however the mechanic has informed us that due to her NDA she cannot provide any details about her findings after e…

For over the past 18 months, Tesla FSD software deliberately removed the driver’s ability to control following distance, instead replacing it with fuzzy descriptions of “mad max, hurry, standard, chill, and sloth.” As a result the car cannot maintain a safe highway following distance as determined by the driver. When in Hurry and or Standard mode, the car will routinely reach speeds of 75 to 80 mph and decrease following distance to about 3 car lengths, with no car for more than 20 car lengths behind. When a sudden slowdown occurs, the tesla …

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
