Year-by-year records
Recall history
5 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.
96V139000 · Structure:Body
Reported: 1996-07-23 (July 23, 1996) · Model years: 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996
AN ITEM WORN BY A CHILD, SUCH AS A LONG DRAWSTRING, SASH, OR BACKPACK/BOOKBAG ACCESSORY, CAN BECOME CAUGHT IN THE AREA BETWEEN THE SERVICE DOOR AND THE DOOR CONTROL ROD ATTACHING BRACKET.
Consequence: IF AN ITEM WORN BY A CHILD WERE TO CATCH ON THIS AREA, AND THE DRIVER WERE TO CLOSE THE DOOR AND PUT THE VEHICLE IN MOTION, THIS CAN RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.
Remedy: A MOLDED COVER WILL BE INSTALLED BETWEEN THE MANUALLY OPERATED OUTWARD OPENING ENTRANCE DOOR AND THE DOOR CONTROL ROD ATTACHING BRACKET WHICH WILL ELIMINATE THE OPENING THAT COULD ALLOW AN ITEM OF A CHILD'S CLOTHING TO BECOME SNAGGED.
NHTSA campaign record ↗93V013000 · Visibility:Glass, Side/Rear
Reported: 1993-01-01 (January 1, 1993) · Model years: 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993
THE CURRENT PRODUCTION STATIONARY WINDOW ASSEMBLIES ALLOW THE GLASS TO DISENGAGE FROM THE RUBBER AND/OR FRAME.
Consequence: THE WINDOWS DO NOT COMPLY WITH FMVSS 217, "BUS WINDOWRETENTION AND RELEASE."
Remedy: INSTALL TWO RETAINING CLIPS AT EACH NON-COMPLYING WINDOW.
NHTSA campaign record ↗93V142001 · Steering:Gear Box (Other Than Rack And Pinion)
Reported: 1993-10-01 (October 1, 1993) · Model years: 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993
THE CAP SCREWS THAT HOLD THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING LINKAGES ONTO THE INPUT AND OUTPUT SHAFTS OF THE 90 DEGREE STEERING GEAR BOX WERE IMPROPERLY TORQUED, AND CAN SEPARATE FROM THE LINKAGE CONNECTIONS. ALSO, THE KEYS WERE NOT INSTALLED IN THE KEYWAYS OF THE STEERING LINKAGE AND THE STEERING BOX SHAFT.
Consequence: THE CAP SCREW SEPARATING FROM THE INTERMEDIATE LINKAGE/90 DEGREE GEAR BOX AND THE MISSING KEYS HAVE THE POTENTIAL FOR CATASTROPHICFAILURE OF THE STEERING SYSTEM WHICH MAY RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT.
Remedy: REMOVE ALL FASTENERS CONNECTING THE STEERING GEAR BOX INPUT AND OUTPUT SHAFTS TO THE INTERMEDIATE LINKAGES AND REASSEMBLE WITH NEW KEYS, CAP SCREWS, WASHERS, AND NUTS.
NHTSA campaign record ↗96V164000 · Structure:Body
Reported: 1996-09-05 (September 5, 1996) · Model years: 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996
AN ITEM WORN BY A CHILD, SUCH AS A LONG DRAWSTRING, SASH, OR BACKPACK/BOOKBAG ACCESSORY, CAN BECOME CAUGHT ON THE FATENERS THAT SECURE THE HANDRAIL SUPPORT TO THE HANDRAIL.
Consequence: IF AN ITEM WORN BY A CHILD WERE TO CATCH ON THIS AREA, AND THE DRIVER WERE TO CLOSE THE DOOR AND PUT THE VEHICLE IN MOTION, THIS CAN RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.
Remedy: THE EXISTING 1" BOLTS THAT SECURE THE HANDRAIL SUPPORT WILL BE REPLACED WITH 1/2" BOLTS.
NHTSA campaign record ↗95V042000 · Equipment:Appliance:Air Conditioner
Reported: 1995-03-03 (March 3, 1995) · Model years: 1994
THE AIR CONDITIONING HOSE COVERS DO NOT MEET THE HEAD IMPACT REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS NO. 222, "SCHOOL BUS PASSENGER SEATING AND CRASH PROTECTION."
Consequence: CONSEQUENCE OF NON-COMPLIANCE: THIS CONDITION CAN CAUSE PERSONAL INJURY IN A VEHICLE CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REROUTE THE COVER FROM THE HEAD IMPACT ZONE AND ALSO REPLACE THE METAL COVER WITH A PLASTIC COVER.

Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
Equal-age model-year comparison
Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
1995: 0 complaints · 1996: 0 complaints
| Model year | Through age 0 | Through age 1 | Through age 2 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1995 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| 1996 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Date coverage across each selected cohort
| Year | Incident dates used | Filing date fallbacks | Excluded dates |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1995 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| 1996 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
Components reported together
Each cell counts unique complaints naming both components. Open a nonzero cell for examples.

Co-reporting does not establish that one component caused another concern.
Recurring narrative patterns
Specific keyword mentions beyond broad component labels. Matching includes negations and comparisons and does not confirm a diagnosis.
