In June 2021 at a milage of 10,630 the DEF sensor become faulty and warning lights came when on I-5 interstate, CA. A replacement sensor solve the issue but the new one also getting stuck causing the DEF level not reporting correctly. I am worry about the "Limp mode" if the sensor is not working causing a safety hazard. Either sensor needs to be more reliable or the enabling of the limp mode should be done under careful consideration giving enough time for the driver to get to safety.

On Sunday, May 21, 2023 we were traveling e/b on Highway 40 in Albuquerque when an amber mil light and check engine light appeared on the dash followed with sluggish engine performance. We exited the highway (#175) and pulled over. SPN 94 FMI 17, SPN 157 FMI 18. After about 15 minutes and engine restart only the mil remained. We got back on the freeway and the event re-occurred. A mobile mechanic replaced the fuel filters and cleared the faults. We continued on. We exited the highway at Flying C Ranch (#234) and while exiting the event r…

Two issues, both resulting in derating to 5 mph on a busy freeway. The DEF sensor has had repeated failures, resulting in 7 generations of DEF sensors, all of which have had repeated failures. Without reprogramming by Cummins, a DEF simulator, or DEF sensor replacement, the engine derates to 5mph upon 2 restarts. This results in a dangerous driving situation unless the vehicle is towed. The second issue is a faulty wiring harness in all Cummins ISV 5.0 engines, used in Nissan Pickups, buses, and Tiffin Breeze motorhomes from 2017-2019. The wi…

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
