Owner report 11603837 · 2024-07-22 (July 22, 2024)

I was accelerating on an on-ramp to merge with traffic on a freeway, and my corolla’s engine shut itself off. All the electronics stayed on and flashed the messages ‘Parking brake malfunction’ and something along the lines of ‘Secondary collision brake system malfunction’. I was stuck coasting in traffic and could not start the engine in neutral. I had to make the car come to a complete stop on the freeway in a lane with no shoulder, put it in park, turn it off, and then back on again. All messages and lights disappeared. I took it to a toyota …

Owner report 11607766 · 2024-08-10 (August 10, 2024)

The system that is problematic for this vehicle is the Pre Collision System (PCS). This system is way too sensitive even on the lowest sensitivity setting, and I have experienced the car braking in error on multiple occasions when driving up or down a windy road. When I approach a bend in the road and there is a car parked on the side of the street, my Corolla will think that I am about to collide with the parked vehicle and make a loud beeping noise and automatically hit the brakes. This has frightened me on a number of occasions, and I am con…

Owner report 11617320 · 2024-09-30 (September 30, 2024)

This is an issue I have noticed with my car shortly after I bought it. The problem is that the car has a noticable delay in acceleration when accelerating from a complete stop. After doing some research online, I found that the cause was the car's CVT transmission, and that a delay in acceleration happens with other cars with CVT transmissions as well. This could be potentially dangerous especially when making right turns on a red light or when making unprotected lefts on a green, as the window of opportunity to go is sometimes short in those s…

My vehicle stalled when pulling out into traffic. I lost power steering and electrical and the engine died. The vehicle had to be restarted to continue driving. I was going about 1 to 2 mph when the issue happened. The vehicle was in motion and stalled while other vehicles were in motion putting my safety at risk, had I been going any faster or if there was an increased amount of traffic. I reported the problem to the dealer service center, but they were unable to reproduce it. The vehicle was inspected by Toyota only, no police or insuranc…

When he stepped on the gas pedal to go, the engine stopped and a message "Engine Stopped, Steering Power Low" message appeared in the dashboard. Engine light and steering light also came "on" the dash. This may occur while driving and put the driver at risk. This is my fourth service visit for the same unresolved safety issue on my 2024 Toyota Corolla Hybrid. The problem involves a cracked fuel line and fuel vapor leak in the same area as recall 24TC08 (Fuel Tank Filler Clamp and Vapor Leak Detection). The dealership initially failed to detect this during recall work and later claimed “rodent damage” after two prior visits. Upon startup in cold weather conditions, a brief but loud grinding/rattling sound will occur. The noise is related to an inadequate spring inside of the intake camshaft gear which will not push a small cylinder in place to lock the intake camshaft gear in place. When not in its proper place, the gear will rattle in its housing, causing the brief noise. If the gear rattles against its housing too hard overtime, it can break and cause catastrophic engine failure by sending metal pieces into the engine, including pistons and rods.

I was able to distinguish today the car noises my vehicle is making happens when I break. Like a “eeeeek” sound. My mileage is under 8,000, had the car almost a year. Also I notice my wheel stiffens. I’m able to verify it happens when I merge - specifically when the lane dashes end. The wheel somehow gets tight even when driving with both hands. As if the vehicle gets confused. This has happened about 5 times this year but every time it happens- I brace myself for the vehicle to crash since I can’t control the wheel, no matter how strong I try…

The system that is problematic for this vehicle is the Pre Collision System (PCS). This system is way too sensitive even on the lowest sensitivity setting, and I have experienced the car braking in error on multiple occasions when driving up or down a windy road. This has frightened me on a number of occasions, and I am con…

When the sun is overhead (this happens daily in South Florida) the reflection of the ambient light on the instrument panel cover makes it impossible to look at the information on the instrument panel. This essentially makes one drive while being blind. Not a safe concept. It is pathetic that no action has been taken against the company.

In a 2024 Corolla the spiral cable (clock spring) is defective. It controls the airbag, cruise control, horn and more, so it is an important safety mechanism electrical part. Toyota USA is on back order for this part for at least a month, maybe two. People are driving around with this defective part while waiting for the part to arrive in the US, and will need to pay upwards of $1000 to have the defectiv…
