Bought brand new car from Toyota. While driving on Highway at 60 mph car suddenly went dead and catastrophic warning showed up on dash. Was barely able to pull over to side of road. Very dangerous. Had car towed to Toyota who informed me that battery was defective in cold weather and went dead. Battery replaced. Recall inspection is warranted.

I have oiwned the car for 3 months and there has not been a problem previously. As I was pulling into a parking space at work, going less than 5 mph, i took my foot off the accelerator and coasting in while intending to brake, stop, and turn the car off. Suddenly, the car accelerated forward quickly, propelling the car over a tall curb, over a small grassy area, and onto the open parking lot. At times banging is loud enough to sound like vehicle hit something. No issues with braking currently. Not sure if noise is from ABS but sound is coming from front and back. Toyota inspected vehicle and said sound is the ABS activating..."totally normal for newer hybrids and no fix at this time...test drove other 2024 Rav4 Primes and all had same noise". TAS#242180433. The car was under warranty and experienced a transaxle failure while on a highway between Yuma, AZ and Tucson, AZ. The dealer who inspected and repaired the car determined the cause to be a flawed cooler replacement by a body shop in which transmission fluid was not properly replaced subsequent to a left front fender bender accident, which voided the warranty. (Fluids were dry on inspection; no leaks/issues identified at our residence or during "Toyota Care" X2 following the body shop repair.) The car worked flawlessly for one year after the bo…

Hazard (fishtailing risk): In rain with LTA ON, small but critical driver steering corrections near center are overridden by EPS/LTA, which apply centering torque into steering dual compliance creating a real steering wheel deadband canceling the driver’s turning of the wheel across the deadband; then the steered wheels snap abruptly to the steering wheel position. The significantly delayed response and snap overcorrection, caused cause fishtailing (causing a miss with a car, then a semi), just like the car suddenly had loose ball joints. Condi…

The 2021 RAV4 Prime has a known defect with the heat pump causing an alarming sound to be heard within about a 1 minute of startup. The grinding noise causes distraction as it is extremely loud and occurs generally while backing out/maneuvering in tight areas. Toyota released a Service Bulletin in their European Market in October (numbered BE-00612T-TME - "Train Horn noise" from A/C compressor when the vehicle is started), but has not made available the same fixes in the US even months later.

The primary instrument display started to go out when it was cold, below 50'F. This could be mitigated by running the engine or running the defrost for a period of time to warm up the area around the display. When it was too cold this winter, that was no longer effective and the display would not come on at all. The Toyota pre-collision braking system is too slow to release control of the throttle back to the driver. Multiple times it has made the car behave in an unexpected fashion in traffic. The most common scenario is when the driver is stopped and turning left onto a busy street. When a car passes in front of you and you try to accelerate after it passes, the pre-collision braking still thinks there's a car in front of you. Instead of acceleration your car just gently rolls into the street. The driver can't do anything in the moment to override…

This sudden explosive noise put the driver, and all other vehicles on the road, in danger due to the panicked reflex of the driver. Upon inspection, it's evident that the glass shattered along all 4 edges rather than from a single point of impact. This would indicate an issue with the glass, the installation, or both. Vehicle was taken to dealer and customer was told it would not be covered under warranty.

Moonroof spontaneously exploded while driving on the highway. The moonroof was closed, no one was trying to open it. All windows were closed, no one was trying to open them. My husband was driving and differently we heard a loud explosion which sounded like a shotgun going off and thought someone was shooting at us. I looked behind the car and could see glass flying everywhere. We safely pulled over and the entire moon roof had randomly and spontaneous exploded. No collision. Nothing fell on us etc. A quick Google search with show you that th…

The driver was pulling into a friend's carport. After crossing a small curb her foot was taken off the gas and was moving to the brake. The car was going slightly uphill as slow as a car can go with no gas pedal depressed. The car then accelerated as if someone pressed the gas to the floor. In a matter of 8 feet it gained enough speed and momentum that when it hit our friend's parked car the 4 door SUV was pushed forward 4 feet. The gas pedal was never pushed by the driver. No failed component was ever identified by multiple inspections by the …

The electronic dashboard with speedometer, and information regarding mechanical functions and fuel has gone blank. This recall has been issued however, Toyota does not yet have a fix. They are estimating sometime in December, however no specific date for a fix. I have followed up with the Toyota dealer who stated that I should file a complaint regarding the delay in a fix.

I was driving on a busy road at rush-hour. I was behind a school bus at a light. I stopped the car the way I always do but the car kept inching up very very slowly. I could not stop the car. It just kept moving until I hit the back of the bus!!! there was no damage to the bus, but my vehicle has a lot of damage on it. It was almost new 2024 RAV4 prime!!! I have since read that there have been a lot of recalls on this vehicle for brake problems. I could not drive the car and had to have it towed to the dealership Of course they say they know not…

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
