CONSUMER HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING ONGOING PROBLEMS CONCERNING ABS SYSTEM FAILURE WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR OF PURCHASE. BRAKE PEDAL WOULD GO ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR BEFORE STOPPING THE VEHICLE, OR IT WOULD NOT STOP AS IT SHOULD. CONSUMER NOTICED REAR BRAKES LOOKED AS IF THEY HAVE NOT BEEN WORN OUT. BUT THE FRONT BRAKES HAVE BEEN REPLACED TOO MANY TIMES FOR PREMATURE WEAR. VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN ONE REAR END COLLISION DUE TO BRAKE FAILURE. WHILE TRAVELING AT 65MPH ON AN EXPRESSWAY, I LOST TOTAL STEERING. THIS HAPPENED WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNING. MY STEERING WHEEL SPUN AS FREELY AS A ROULETTE WHEEL. TRUCK WENT TO THE RIGHT, BEARLY MISSING A BRIDGE OVERPASS. TRUCK WENT OFF THE ROAD AND DOWN AN EMBANKMENT AT A 45 DEGREE ANGLE. I THOUGHT THE TRUCK WAS ABOUT TO ROLL, BUT THEN THE TIRES TURNED RIGHT ANOTHER 45 DEGREES AND I ENDED UP AT THE BOTTOM THE THE DITCH, PERPENDICULAR TO IT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1989 TOYOTA PICKUP SR5. THE CONTACT PERFORMED ROUTINE MAINTENANCE ON THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THERE WAS EXCESSIVE OIL ON THE RESERVOIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED BY A DEALER NOR WAS IT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED HIM THAT HIS VEHICLE HAD NO RECALLS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 144,000.
