Reported: 1999-04-15 (April 15, 1999) · Model years: 1999

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MOTORCYCLES. OIL CAN LEAK FROM BETWEEN THE CRANKCASE HALVES.

Reported: 2001-11-02 (November 2, 2001) · Model years: 2000, 2001

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MOTORCYCLES. THE CLUTCH CONTROL CABLE CAN FRAY AND FAIL. THE BARREL AT THE END OF THE INNER CABLE SEIZES IN THE CONTROL LEVER BORE, THEREBY STRESSING THE INNER CABLE.

Consequence: THIS CAUSES THE RIDER TO BE UNABLE TO ENGAGE THE CLUTCH, INCREASING STOPPING DISTANCES AND INHIBITING DRIVING CONTROL.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE CLUTCH CABLE. OWNER NOTIFICATIONBEGAN JANUARY 25, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT TRIUMPH AT 678-854-2010.

ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, THE LOWER BY-PASS COOLANT HOSE CAN RUPTURE.

FUEL INJECTION CHECK VALVES AT THE LOWER RIGHT OF THE TANK ARE PLASTIC, AND GLUED IN. THIS IS NOT A REPAIRABLE PART, IN MY OPINION IT'S A JOB SECURITY SCAM, THEY SNAP, AND HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO SNAP ACCORDING TO SEVERAL FORUMS. *JB

FAILURE OF MAIN POWER LEAD FROM IGNITION SWITCH CAUSED COMPLETE ELECTRICAL POWER FAILURE INCLUDING ENGINE IGNITION AND LIGHTING SYSTEM. THIS POWER LEAD BREAKS FROM BEING FLEXED BACK AND FORTH AS THE MOTORCYCLE IS STEERED. INSUFFICIENT SLACK IS ALLOWED IN THE WIRING HARNESS CAUSING THE WIRES TO BEND SHARPLY WHERE TIED WITH A CABLE TIE.

THE FUEL TANK STARTED LEAKING FUEL AS I WAS RIDING THE BIKE. I DID NOT REALIZE IT UNTIL THE BACK TIRE SLID GOING AROUND A CORNER ON PERFECTLY DRY PAVEMENT. WHEN I STOPPED I NOTICED FUEL PUDDLING UNDERNEATH THE BIKE. I FINALLY TRACED THE LEAK DOWN TO THE BOTTOM OF THE FUEL PUMP MOUNTING FLANGE WHERE IT MOUNTS TO THE FUEL TANK. *TR

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
