Recall history
3 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.
94V162000 · Fuel System, Gasoline:Delivery:Hoses, Lines/Piping, And Fittings
Reported: 1994-09-01 (September 1, 1994)
THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT IS SEPARATED FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT BY AN INSULATED ENGINE COVER. THE INSULATION INSIDE THIS COVER CAN RUB AGAINST THE FUEL RETURN HOSE RESULTING IN A FUEL LEAK. ADDITIONALLY, A WIRING HARNESS CAN ALSO WEAR THROUGH CAUSING INTERRUPTION TO SOME ELECTRICAL OPERATIONS, INCLUDING THE FUEL PUMP.
Consequence: FUEL LEAKING INSIDE THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT CAN RESULT IN A FIRE WHEN EXPOSED TO A SOURCE OF IGNITION. FAILURE OF THE ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP CAN CAUSE POOR PERFORMANCE AND POSSIBLE STALLING CREATING A ROAD HAZARD WHICH CAN RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE RUBBER FUEL LINE HOSE WITH A SOLID STEEL LINES AND ROUTE THE LINE TO PROVIDE ONE INCH OF CLEARANCE TO THE COVER. ALSO, THE WIRING HARNESS COVER WILL BE REPLACED AND THE WIRING REROUTED TO GAIN SUFFICIENT CLEARANCE.
NHTSA campaign record ↗94V164000 · Fuel System, Gasoline:Delivery:Hoses, Lines/Piping, And Fittings
Reported: 1994-09-01 (September 1, 1994)
THE OIL PRESSURE SWITCH WHICH CONTROLS THE POWER TO THE ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP CAN FAIL. FAILURE IS DUE TO A MISSING RUBBER SEAL BETWEEN THE SWITCH AND THE WIRING HARNESS. THE MISSING SEAL ALLOWS CONTAMINANTS TO ENTER THE SWITCH CAUSING IT TO FAIL IN THE OPEN OR CLOSED POSITION.
Consequence: IF THE SWITCH FAILS IN THE CLOSED POSITION, THE PUMP WILL CONTINUE TO RUN WHEN THE ENGINE IS OFF, DRAINING THE BATTERY. IF THE SWITCH FAILS IN THE OPEN POSITION IT WILL CAUSE POOR PERFORMANCE AND POSSIBLY STALLING.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE VEHICLES FOR THE PRESENCE OF THE SEAL. IF THE SEAL IS MISSING, THE SWITCH WILL BE REPLACED AND A NEW SEAL WILL BE INSTALLED.
NHTSA campaign record ↗96V049000 · Vehicle Speed Control:Accelerator Pedal
Reported: 1996-03-12 (March 12, 1996)
THE COATING USED TO PROTECT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL SHAFT IS INCOMPATIBLE WITH THE BRONZE BUSHING THROUGH WHICH THE SHAFT PASSES. OVER TIME, AND IN THE PRESENCE OF A CORROSIVE ENVIRONMENT (WATER, ROAD SALT), THE SHAFT CAN CORRODE INSIDE THE BUSHING INCREASING THE AMOUNT OF FRICTION BETWEEN THE ROTATING SHAFT AND THE STATIONARY BUSHING.
Consequence: A CORRODED ACCELERATOR PEDAL SHAFT CAN CAUSE THE ENGINE THROTTLE TO BIND AND NOT FULLY RETURN TO IDLE WHEN THE OPERATOR'S FOOT IS REMOVED FROM THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL INCREASING THE POTENTIAL FOR A VEHICLE ACCIDENT.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A REVISED ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND SHAFT ASSEMBLY.

Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
Equal-age model-year comparison
Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
