25V120000 · Power Train:Automatic Transmission:Gear Position Indication (Prndl) | Service Brakes, Hydraulic:Antilock/Traction Control/Electronic Limited Slip:Control Unit/Module

Reported: 2025-02-27 (February 27, 2025)

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2021-2023 ID.4, 2022-2023 Audi Q4 e-Tron, and Q4 e-Tron Sportback vehicles. The instrument panel may not properly display the transmission gear lever indicator. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 102, "Transmission Shift Lever Sequence, Starter Interlock, and Transmission Braking Effect."

Consequence: Failure to display the gear position may result in a vehicle rollaway if the parking brake is not engaged, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will update the brake control unit software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 14, 2025. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298 or Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 97H3. Audi's number for this recall is 454R.

The air conditioner warning light came on in April 2026. I took it to dealer to be checked. Dealer said no problem. That warning light went on intermittently through May, June and July. By end of July I took it back to dealer. The evaporator was indeed malfunctioning and emitting carbon dioxide into the cabin when the air conditioner was on. While repairing the evaporator system, the plastic cover over the ground stud broke and required replacement. The vehicle was out of service for 10 working days.

I purchased a new 2024 Audi Q4 e-tron. The first malfunction occurred in January 2025 when a dashboard warning appeared stating the vehicle was “unable to read traffic or road signs.” The dealer confirmed a front-camera sensor failure and replaced the camera under Repair Order #193312 (1/17/25 – 1/29/25) at approximately 397 miles. In February 2025, the vehicle displayed repeated “drive system malfunction” warnings and would not start reliably. The dealer determined the issue was linked to the 12-volt battery and replaced it under RO #194457 (…

While driving in the left lane on a particularly bumpy section of Interstate 5 South in Seattle (just before the NE 50th Street overpass), I had to quickly hit my brakes as traffic abruptly slowed. The Audie "Pre-sense" sytem did trigger, but emergency autonomous braking did not. My car did not slow down as I hit the brake, and I had to swerve onto the shoulder and put it in "B" mode to trigger full regenerative braking to stop the car. The weather was clear and the road was dry. I had previously had the vehicle in to the dealer as the brakes…

The contact owns a 2025 Audi Q4 Sportback E-tron. The contact stated that while the vehicle was inside the car wash, the contact shifted the transmission from neutral(N) to drive(D), but the vehicle experienced unintended acceleration. The contact lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the car wash wall, damaging the front driver's side of the vehicle. The warning labels that are posted on the front of the sun visors are a visual distraction that diminish the forward sight line of the driver. When I cover the warning label with my hand the depth of field and forward sight line is greatly improved. I removed this label from previous vehicles that I owned. However, the sticker on this vehicle is part of the visor and can not be removed. I have never read this warning label, nor has anyone in my family. In my opinion, all warnings and precautions should be placed in the owner's manual. It is imp…

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
