Recall history
3 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.
93V081000 · Service Brakes, Air
Reported: 1993-05-17 (May 17, 1993)
THE FRONT BRAKE AIR LINES ARE INCORRECTLY ROUTED THROUGH THE PRESSURE PROTECTION VALVE AT THE AUXILIARY WET TANK. THIS RESULTS IN LACK OF AIR PRESSURE TO THE FRONT BRAKES WHEN THE AIR PRESSURE IN THE AUXILIARY WET TANK DROPS BELOW 65 P.S.I., RESULTING IN INOPERABLE FRONT BRAKES.
Consequence: WHEN THERE IS NO FRONT BRAKE APPLICATION, STOPPINGDISTANCE INCREASES, AND THERE IS AN INCREASED RISK OF ACCIDENT.
Remedy: CORRECTLY REROUTE THE BRAKE LINES.
NHTSA campaign record ↗93V203000 · Steering:Hydraulic Power Assist:Hose, Piping, And Connections
Reported: 1993-12-06 (December 6, 1993)
THE HYDRAULIC HOSES WHICH INTERCONNECT WITH THE HYDRAULIC PUMP, HYDRAULIC RADIATOR FAN MOTOR AND POWER STEERING GEAR HAVE AN UNDERSIZED WIRE MESH CORE WHICH RESULTS IN AN IMPROPER HOSE END CRIMP. THE IMPROPER CRIMP CAN CAUSE A LEAK, EMPTYING THE POWER STEERING HYDRAULIC FLUID RESERVOIR, RESULTING IN LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST.
Consequence: COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST CAN CAUSE LOSS OFVEHICLE CONTROL AND RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT.
Remedy: OWNERS ARE BEING ASKED TO INSPECT HOSE FOR THE DATE CODE 3-1Q93 WHICH IS EMBOSSED ON THE HOSE COVER EVERY 18 INCHES. REPLACEMENT HOSES WILL BE PROVIDED. OWNERS CAN HANDLE THE REPAIR THEMSELVES OR HAVE A BLUE BIRD DISTRIBUTOR ASSIST THEM. OWNERS WILL BE REIMBURSED FOR THE LABOR CHARGES FOLLOWING COMPLETION OF THE RECALL WORK.
NHTSA campaign record ↗94V011000 · Service Brakes, Air:Drum:Chamber
Reported: 1994-01-21 (January 21, 1994)
AN INCORRECT SIZE BRAKE CHAMBER MAY HAVE BEEN INSTALLED ON THE FRONT AND/OR REAR BRAKE ASSEMBLIES WHICH COULD AFFECT THE BRAKE BALANCE AND STOPPING DISTANCE.
Consequence: BRAKE IMBALANCE MAY CAUSE LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL DURING BRAKE APPLICATIONS; INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE OR BRAKE APPLICATION COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF CONTROL AND AN ACCIDENT.
Remedy: BUS OWNERS WILL BE PROVIDED WITH INSTRUCTIONS TO INSPECT THEIR VEHICLES AND PROVIDE BLUE BIRD WITH CERTAIN INFORMATION. BLUE BIRD WILL REVIEW THE INFORMATION AND, WHERE NEEDED, WILL FORWARD REPLACEMENT BRAKE CHAMBERS ALONG WITH REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS TO THE VEHICLE OWNERS. BRAKE CHAMBER REPLACEMENT WILL BE PERFORMED BY THE VEHICLE OWNER OR A QUALIFIED REPAIR FACILITY.

Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
Equal-age model-year comparison
Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
2002: 0 complaints · 2003: 0 complaints
| Model year | Through age 0 | Through age 1 | Through age 2 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2002 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| 2003 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Date coverage across each selected cohort
| Year | Incident dates used | Filing date fallbacks | Excluded dates |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2002 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| 2003 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
