Recall history
4 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.
07V367000 · Engine And Engine Cooling:Engine
Reported: 2007-08-15 (August 15, 2007)
ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, A LEFT-SIDE CHAIN TENSIONER HAS BEEN INCORRECTLY INSTALLED ON THE RIGHT SIDE. AS A RESULT, A HEX NUT, WHICH IS USED TO SECURE THE CHAIN TENSIONER, IS IMPROPERLY SEATED AGAINST THE TENSIONER.
Consequence: LOOSENING OF THE CHAIN TENSIONER AND THE REAR WHEEL AXLE MAY OCCUR. THIS COULD LEAD TO A CONDITION IN WHICH THE MOTORCYCLE IS UNSTABLE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A NEW RIGHT SIDE CHAIN TENSIONER FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 13, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT BMW AT 1-800-831-1117.
NHTSA campaign record ↗07V376000 · Fuel System, Gasoline:Delivery:Fuel Pump
Reported: 2007-08-22 (August 22, 2007)
ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, THE FUEL PUMP WIRING SET HAS NOT BEEN MANUFACTURED ACCORDING TO SPECIFICATION. THE CONTACTS IN THE PLUG FOR THE FUEL PUMP CAN BREAK.
Consequence: THE FUEL PUMP WILL FAIL AND FUEL DELIVERY TO THE ENGINE WOULD CEASE CAUSING THE ENGINE TO STALL INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP UNIT WIRING SET FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 1, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT BMW AT 1-800-831-1117.
NHTSA campaign record ↗08V106000 · Fuel System, Gasoline:Delivery:Hoses, Lines/Piping, And Fittings
Reported: 2008-03-11 (March 11, 2008)
BMW IS RECALLING 1,391 MY 2007 G650X CHALLENGE, COUNTRY, AND MOTO MOTORCYCLES. THE FUEL LINES MAY HAVE BEEN DAMAGED DURING PRODUCTION, AND COULD DEVELOP A LEAK. THE LEAK COULD OCCUR EITHER THROUGH THE FABRIC INLAY AT THE END OF THE LINE, OR, THROUGH A CRACK IN THE ACTUAL LINE.
Consequence: FUEL LEAKAGE, IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE THE FUEL LINES FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN DURING APRIL 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT BMW AT 1-800-831-1117.
NHTSA campaign record ↗08V111000 · Suspension:Rear
Reported: 2008-03-11 (March 11, 2008)
BMW IS RECALLING 744 MY 2007 G650X CHALLENGER AND COUNTRY MOTORCYCLES. THE MOTORCYCLES MAY HAVE HAD THE WRONG CIRCULAR CLIP INSTALLED ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF THE REAR WHEEL BEARING GUIDE. THIS CIRCLIP CAN RUB AGAINST A SPACER BUSHING, CREATING METAL SHAVINGS WHICH MAY ENTER THE WHEEL BEARING, CAUSING IT TO FAIL AND THE ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) MAY MALFUNCTION. THIS WOULD BE INDICATED BY ILLUMINATION OF THE ABS WARNING LAMP.
Consequence: IF THIS HAPPENED, THE BRAKES WOULD REMAIN FULLY AVAILABLE TO SLOW AND STOP THE MOTORCYCLE. DEPENDING ON TRAFFIC AND ROAD CONDITIONS AS WELL AS A RIDER'S REACTIONS, COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL CHECK AND INSTALL A CORRECT CIRCLIP, ALONG WITH A NEW SPACER BUSHING, WHEEL BEARINGS, AND SHAFT SEALING RINGS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN DURING APRIL 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT BMW AT 1-800-831-1117.

Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
Equal-age model-year comparison
Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
2007: 1 complaints
| Model year | Through age 0 | Through age 1 | Through age 2 |

Date coverage across each selected cohort
| Year | Incident dates used | Filing date fallbacks | Excluded dates |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2007 | 2 | 0 | 0 |
Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
