I HAVE AN 07 CHEVY AVALANCHE THAT HAS A CRACKED DASH AROUND THE AIRBAG AREA. A WEB SEARCH WILL REVEAL THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ACROSS GM VEHICLES. IN MY MIND THIS PROBLEM RENDERS THE VEHICLE UNSAFE BECAUSE THE CRACK HAS JEOPARDIZED THE INTEGRITY OF THE DASHBOARD. GM NEEDS TO RECALL AND FIX THE DASHBOARDS FREE OF CHARGE. *TR

2006 8.1 LITER 2500 AVALANCHE CUT OUT GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. WE WERE STRANDED FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES DURING WHICH TIME WE CALLED ONSTAR FOR HELP. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AND ALSO RESET THE ENGINE HOUR METER TO ZERO. WE BROUGHT IT INTO OUR DEALER TOM BANNON CHEVROLET AND THEY COULD FIND NO PROBLEM. AS I WAS ABOUT TO PARK MY AVALANCHE IN THE STREET IN FRONT OF MY HOME I PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO COME TO A STOP AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS FIRM AND THEN BECAME SOFT AND DEPRESSED QUICKLY QUITE FARTHER THAN NORMAL. THE AVALANCHE CONTINUED TO ROLL AND I HAD TO PUMP THE BRAKES TO GET IT TO COME TO A FULL STOP. AFTER GETTING OUT OF THE VEHICLE I INSPECTED THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND FOUND A GREAT DEAL OF BRAKE FLUID ON THE UNDER BODY AND PUDDLED ON THE GROUND. THERE WAS NO CROSS TRAFFIC SO I LUCKILY AVOIDED AN ACCIDENT. THE BRAKE LINE FAILED DUE TO RUST. BRAKING ABILITY WITH ONLY THE REAR BRAKES ACTIVE WAS VIRTUALLY NONEXISTENT AND THERE WAS NO WARNINGS ON THE DISPLAY. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW THE PREVIOUS INVESTIGATION INTO GM BRAKE LINES WAS DISMISSED.

POOR BREAKING AT 8500 MILES. DEALER TURNED FRONT ROTORS. POOR BREAKING AGAIN AT 9500 MILES, DEALER REPLACED REAR PADS AND ROTORS. BREAKING ALMOST CAUSED SERIOUS ACCIDENT, AS STOPPING DISTANCE WAS ABOUT 3 TIMES NORMAL. GM WOULD NOT COVER 2ND REPAIR. FRONT PADS WERE STILL GOOD, AND TRUCK DRIVEN GENTLY ABOUT 200 MILES PER MONTH. I BELIEVE INFERIOR STEEL USED IN MANUFACTURE, AND ALL SHOULD BE RECALLED. *TR

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
