Recall history

3 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

14V375000 · Visibility:Windshield Wiper/Washer

Reported: 2014-06-27 (June 27, 2014)

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Chevrolet Caprice vehicles manufactured June 7, 2013, to May 29, 2014, and 2014 Chevrolet SS vehicles manufactured September 13, 2013, to March 4, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the windshield wiper motor gear teeth may strip causing the windshield wipers to become inoperative.

Consequence: Inoperative wipers will not clear rain or snow, reducing the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the wiper module assembly and replace any affected ones, free of charge. The recall began on August 22, 2014. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is 14295.

NHTSA campaign record ↗
14V446000 · Seats

Reported: 2014-07-23 (July 23, 2014)

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Buick Encore and Cadillac ATS; 2014 Cadillac CTS, ELR, Chevrolet Caprice and SS vehicles; and 2014-2015 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra Trucks. Due to an incomplete weld on the seat hook bracket assembly, the front seats in the affected vehicles may not stay secured in place during a high load condition such as a crash.

Consequence: A seat that does not stay secured increases the risk of occupant injury in a vehicle crash.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the seat hook bracket assembly weld and replace the lower seat track, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on August 15, 2014. Owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-521-7300 (Buick), 1-800-458-8006 (Cadillac), 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), and 1-800-462-8782 (GMC). GM's number for this recall is 14340.

NHTSA campaign record ↗
15V636000 · Seats

Reported: 2015-10-09 (October 9, 2015)

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014 Chevrolet Caprice vehicles manufactured August 14, 2013, to February 3, 2014, and Chevrolet SS vehicles manufactured August 15, 2013, to February 16, 2014. The affected vehicles received replacement seat base assemblies during repair service, but during the work, the seat position target bracket may not have been transferred from the old seat to the new one. Without the seat position target bracket, the air bag may deploy at a higher intensity than necessary.

Consequence: An air bag that deploys at a higher than intended level increases the risk of injury during a crash.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles and, if necessary, install a seat frame equipped with a target bracket, free of charge. The recall began on December 28, 2015. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is 15567.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

THIS VEHICLE IS ONE OF SEVEN IN A FLEET FOR THE LAGRANGE ILLINOIS POLICE DEPARTMENT. THE VEHICLES WERE RECENTLY PURCHASED NEW ON FEBRUARY 28, 2014 AND WERE SHIPPED FROM AUSTRALIA. OVER THE LAST COUPLE MONTHS, THE MAJORITY OF OUR FLEET (5 OF 7) HAVE ALL HAD POWER STEERING FAILURES WHILE THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN ON AND IN MOTION. ONE OF THE VEHICLES HAS HAD TWO SUCH FAILURES. AS WE ARE A POLICE DEPARTMENT, THERE IS A GREAT CONCERN THAT THE POWER STEERING WILL FAIL WHILE WE ARE IN PURSUIT OF AN OFFENDER, CAUSING A MAJOR CRASH INVOLVING INJURIES/DE…

WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREETS, THE VEHICLE DOOR LOCKS UNLOCK AND LOCK BACK REPEATEDLY. VEHICLE EXPERIENCES SOME HESITATION AND POWER TO CAR CUTS OFF AND THEN BACK ON AGAIN CAUSING IT TO JERK. MOST THE TIME THIS OCCURS WHILE DRIVING BUT ON OCCASION IT WILL ALSO HAPPEN WHEN STOPPED AT A LIGHT. IT COMPLETELY CUT OFF A COUPLE OF TIMES BUT I WAS ABLE TO START IT AGAIN WITH NO PROBLEM.
