Recall history

3 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

84V136000 · Wheels:Hubcap/Cover

Reported: 1984-10-26 (October 26, 1984)

IN SOME 16 X 6 DISC WHEELS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT MAY CAUSE THE WHEELS TO CRACK IN THE DROP CENTER PORTION OF THE RIM. IF THE CRACK WERE TO OCCUR ON A WHEEL WITH A TUBE TYPE TIRE MOUNTED TO IT, AND CONTINUED TO GO UNDETECTED, THE WHEEL COULD SPLIT, RESULTING IN A RAPID LOSS OF AIR FROM THE TIRE.

Remedy: THE DEALER WILL INSPECT EACH WHEEL AND REPLACE IT IF NECESSARY, WITHOUT CHARGE.

85V019000 · Exterior Lighting

Reported: 1985-02-20 (February 20, 1985)

CERTAIN TRUCKS DO NOT COMPLY WITH FMVSS 108, "LAMPS, REFLECTIVE DEVICES AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT." THE TRUCKS WERE ASSEMBLED WITHOUT THE ROOF MARKER LAMPS. CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: SAFE OPERATION OF THE TRUCKS DURING DARKNESS OR REDUCED VISIBILITY WOULD BE IMPAIRED.

Remedy: INSTALL ROOF MARKER LAMPS.

85V156000 · Wheels:Rim

Reported: 1985-11-26 (November 26, 1985)

THE WHEEL MAY DEVELOP CRACKS BETWEEN THE DISC AND RIM. CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: IF THIS OCCURS AND IS NOT NOTICED, THE CRACK COULD INCREASE AROUND THE RIM, RESULTING IN SEPARATION OF THE RIM FROM THE DISC, LOSS OF CONTROL AND AN ACCIDENT MAY OCCUR.

Remedy: REPLACE WHEELS HAVING THE SUSPECTED MANUFACTURING CODE NUMBER.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
