I PURCHASED A 2009 DUCATI SPORT CLASSIC GT ABOUT 4 MONTHS AGO FROM MUNROE MOTORS IN SAN FRANCISCO. THAT MODEL IS PRONE TO THE PLASTIC FUEL TANK DEFORMING AND SPREADING, CAUSING IT TO SOMETIMES BECOME LOOSE ENOUGH TO ALMOST FALL OFF. THIS HAS NOW HAPPENED TO MY MOTORCYCLE. THE MOTORCYCLE HAS BEEN USED NORMALLY AND CARED FOR. I WILL BE CONTACTING MUNROE MOTORS TO REPLACE IT UNDER WARRANTY. AS I UNDERSTAND IT, THERE IS NO PERMANENT FIX SO IT LIKELY WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. BOUGHT BRAND NEW DUCATI GT1000 IN JULY 2009. IN AUGUST I NOTICED THE GAS TANK HAD "SPREAD" TO THE POINT WHERE THE RIGHT SIDE IS NO LONGER MOUNTED. YOU CAN LIFT THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE GAS TANK UP AND DOWN. THE TANK IS ONLY BOLTED NOW IN BACK AND THE LEFT SIDE SLIDES AROUND IN ITS HOLDER/MOUNT/BRACKET. *TR

2009 DUCATI GT 1000 FUEL TANK MOUNT PROBLEMS: THE FUEL TANK HAS APPARENTLY STRETCHED OUT IN WIDTH TO SUCH AN EXTENT THAT THE FRONT MOUNT NO LONGER SECURES THE TANK. AS A CONSEQUENCE THE TANK IS LOOSE AND HELD IN PLACE ONLY BY THE REAR SECURING BOLT, WHICH IS TOTALLY INADEQUATE AND WASN'T DESIGNED TO HOLD THE TANK ON ITS OWN. I FEEL THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND A POTENTIAL DEATH TRAP. *TR

IN JUNE, I PURCHASED A 2009 DUCATI GT1000 BRAND NEW FROM A DEALER IN FT. MYERS, FLORIDA. UPON DELIVERY, THE GAS TANK WAS COMPLETELY DEFORMED SO THAT THE RUBBER BUMPERS INTENDED TO SECURE THE TANK TO THE FRAME NO LONGER SAT IN THE FRAME'S BRACKETS. CONSEQUENTLY, THE TANK IS MERELY RESTING ON THE FRAME, UNSECURED TO THE BIKE. THOUGH THE TANK IS BRAND NEW, I'VE TAKEN IT TO A DEALER WHO SAID THE DEFORMITY IS BAD ENOUGH THAT DUCATI IS REPLACING THE TANK UNDER WARRANTY. BUT THEY ARE DOING SO WITH A TANK THAT ISN'T ANY DIFFERENT FROM THE CURRENT TANK,…

2007 DUCATI GT 1000 SPORT CLASSIC MOTORCYCLE : GAS TANK IS MADE OF SOME SORT OF PLASTIC AND HAS DEFORMED SO MUCH THAT THE ATTACHMENT TO THE FRAME IS NO LONGER EFFECTIVE AND ALLOWS THE TANK TO FLOP AROUND ON THE FRAME. THE PAINT HAS DISTORTED AND BUBBLED IN TWO PLACES AS WELL. I TOOK THE MOTORCYCLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY WILL REPLACE THE TANK UNDER WARRANTY, HOWEVER, THE NEW TANK I WILL RECEIVE IS THE EXACT SAME SPECIFICATION TANK AS THE ONE THAT HAS JUST FAILED. THE GAS TANK DEFORMED SO MUCH THAT INSTEAD OF A THREE POINT FIT, IT IS NOW ONLY HELD IN PLACE BY THE BOLT RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE SEAT. THE TANK CAN EASILY BE LIFTED UP ON THE FRONT OF THE BIKE. THE TANK HAS ALSO DEVELOPED 'DIMPLES' ON THE SURFACE (AS IN LARGE 'DENT'). BASICALLY THE TANK IS COLLAPSING. THIS WILL BE THE THIRD GAS TANK REPLACEMENT FOR THIS BIKE. DUCATI COVERS IT UNDER WARRANTY. HOWEVER, IT IS GUARANTEED THAT THIS ISSUE WILL RE-OCCUR. CURRENTLY THE ONLY SOLUTION IS TO HAVE THE NEW TANK COATED BY A THIRD PARTY. THE COST FOR THIS IS…

WITH THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST DUCATI REGARDING DEFORMED TANKS, THE DEALER FINALLY AGREED TO REPLACE MY TANK. Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
