Recall history

1 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

12V376000 · Structure:Motorcycle:Kickstand/Center Stand

Reported: 2012-08-03 (August 3, 2012)

Ducati is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Diavel motorcycles manufactured from May 25, 2012, through June 28, 2012. The side stand may bend or break.

Consequence: The side stand could bend or break in the pivot area, allowing the motorcycle to fall over, increasing the risk of personal injury to the operator or others near the motorcycle. Even without falling over, a bent sidestand may interfere with the proper operation of the sidestand safety switch, preventing the bike from starting or causing the bike to stall without warning.

Remedy: Ducati will notify owners, and authorized dealers will replace the side stand, free of charge. The safety recall began on August 13, 2012. Owners may contact Ducati at 1-800-231-6696 or through their website at www.ducati.com.

THERE IS A CHRONIC PROBLEM WITH THE REAR BRAKE BECOMING UNUSABLE. THE BRAKE LINE PASSES MUCH TOO CLOSE TO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER, WHICH VAPORIZES THE BRAKE FLUID AND CREATES A GAS POCKET IN THE LINE. THIS RENDERS THE BRAKES UNUSABLE. DRAINING THE LINE REQUIRES REMOVING THE REAR WHEEL (A HUGE JOB ON A DUCATI) AND CALIPER. THE PROBLEM RETURNS ALMOST IMMEDIATELY. THEY HAVE SERVICED IT SEVERAL TIMES, BUT EACH TIME IT IMMEDIATELY FAILS AGAIN. IT IS VERY UNSAFE.

The contact owns a 2014 Ducati Diavel. The contact stated that while riding 35-40 MPH, the motorcycle shuddered and then lost motive power with the rear tire seizing. The motorcycle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the crankshaft was faulty. The mechanic replaced the crankshaft, generator, ball bearing, electric starter, flange clutch, clutch, bushing, bearing needle, gasket, plain bearing, flywheel nut, aluminum washer, and oil filter; however, the failure recurred. The motorcycle was then taken to the dealer, where it …

There is a constant issue with the fuel level gauges (Ducati 59210242B) in this model of bike which causes the sensor to burn out randomly and unexpectedly thus possibly leaving someone stranded due to improper information from the bike. This could leave the potential for an accident as well if the fuel cuts out completely while highway driving and the unexpected deceleration causes someone to rear end the motorcyclist. This issue is on multiple forums, youtube videos, and I believe Ducati has redesigned this part a few times with the same is…

Hi [XXX] , Not sure if you are still working at NHTSA….. For what it’s worth, I finally diagnosed my ‘other’ 2015 Ducati with a failed spark plug wire (open circuit). This bike has about 5,000 miles, but has had the symptoms since about 1,000 miles (i.e., almost 10 years). So, Ducati is 2 for 2 in 2015 for bad spark plug wires. On ‘dual spark’ bikes (i.e., this one), having one failed wire is not a catastrophe; but very hard to diagnose. For my other 2015 bike (emails below) with only one wire per cylinder, it can lead to erratic en…

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
