Owner report 11398629 · 2021-03-02 (March 2, 2021)

REAR BRAKE IS BASICALLY USELESS. I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO PAY A DUCATI DEALER $180.00 AN HOUR TO BLEED THE BRAKE FOR ME, SO I DO IT MYSELF. WORKS FOR A BIT, THEN GOES AWAY AND BARELY STOPS THE WHEEL WHEN I DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL. IT HAS BEEN THIS WAY SINCE NEW AND DUCATI HAS NOT OFFICIALLY RECOGNIZED IT AS A PROBLEM AS IT AFFECTS A FEW DIFFERENT MODELS.

Recall history

2 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

15V637000 · Structure:Motorcycle:Kickstand/Center Stand

Reported: 2015-10-09 (October 9, 2015)

Ducati North America (Ducati) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Multistrada 1200 and 1200 S motorcycles manufactured December 1, 2014, to June 11, 2015. In the affected vehicles, the side-stand may break, due to an incorrect length of the side-stand support tube.

Consequence: If the side-stand breaks, the motorcyle would fall over, increasing the risk of injury to the rider and/or the passenger.

Remedy: Ducati will notify owners, and dealers will replace the side-stand support tubes, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on November 5, 2015. Owners may contact Ducati customer service at 1-800-231-6696. The recall number for this recall is RCL-15-003.

17V274000 · Suspension:Rear:Shock Absorber

Reported: 2017-04-25 (April 25, 2017)

Ducati North America (Ducati) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Multistrada 1200 Enduro motorcycles. The motorcycle's rear shock absorber lower shock-end eyelet may crack and possibly detach from the swingarm.

Consequence: If the rear shock absorber detaches from the swingarm, the motorcycle's handling would be affected, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Ducati will notify owners, and dealers will replace the rear shock absorber assembly, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin May 22, 2017. Owners may contact Ducati customer service at 1-800-231-6696. Ducati's number for this recall is SRV-RCL-17-002.

THE REAR BRAKE ON THIS BIKE SIMPLY DOES NOT WORK. IT CREATES A SERIOUS HAZARD WHILE OPERATING THE MACHINE. I AM A MOTORCYCLE MECHANIC AND HAVE PROPERLY BLED THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM WITH VERY LITTLE SUCCESS. AFTER THE BLEED PROCEDURE, I CAN FEEL A VERY SLIGHT DRAG WHEN THE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED TO ITS MAXIMUM. NO WHERE NEAR ENOUGH PRESSURE TO STOP THE MOTORCYCLE ON A STEEP INCLINE FROM A STOP. WHICH IS WHERE IT'S NEEDED MOST. FROM A STOP, ON A HILL I REPLY ON THE REAR BRAKE AND NOW I AM FORCED INTO A DANGEROUS SITUATION OF MODULATING THE FRONT BRAKES …

THE FIRST ISSUE ON MY DUCATI IS THE REAR BRAKE NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY FOR MANY YEARS NOW. THE REAR BRAKE DOES NOT STOP MY BIKE IN A SAFE DISTANCE AND WHEN WARMED UP WHILE RIDING IT IS VERY SQUISHY AND DOES NOT LOCK UP EVEN WHEN EXTREME PRESSURE IS APPLIED. I HAVE CHANGED THE FLUID RELIGIOUSLY MULTIPLE TIMES A YEAR AND HAVE REPLACED THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS WHICH THE SAME RESULTS WITH ALL BRAND NEW EQUIPMENT! THE REAR FLUID LOCATION IS IN MY OPINION THE ISSUE...THE FLUID HEATS UP AND BREAKS DOWN, PREVENTING IT FROM FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. …

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE FRONT FORK SEALS AND REAR BRAKES BECAME INOPERABLE AND COULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON EIGHT OCCASIONS. THE MOTORCYCLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FORK SEALS WAS FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MOTORCYCLE WAS REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,000.

MOTORCYCLE IS DESIGNED WITH KEYLESS FOB. FOB WILL NOT ALWAYS ACTIVATE THE DASHBOARD AS DESIGNED. BATTERY IN THE FOB AND THE MOTORCYCLE ARE LESS THAN 1 YEAR OLD. THE FOB'S BATTERY TESTS GOOD USING A BATTERY TESTER. THE BIKE BASICALLY LEAVES YOU STRANDED WHEN YOU LEAST EXPECT IT. SOMETIMES YOU CAN GET IT TO ACTIVATE BY HOLDING IT IN A CERTAIN SPOT, BUT NOT 100% OF THE TIME. VERY UNRELIABLE. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO WALK UP THE BIKE WITH FOB IN YOUR POCKET, AND IT SHOULD DETECT ITS PRESENCE. IT COST ME A $50 TOW. WHEN TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP,…

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
