3 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

14V494000 · Equipment

Reported: 2014-08-08 (August 8, 2014)

Vanair Manufacturing, Inc. (Vanair) is recalling certain model year 2009-2013 Ford F-350, F-450, and F-550 SuperDuty chassis modified by Vanair and equipped with certain Muncie Power Products PTO Assemblies used with model 60-85 UDSM, 125-185 USDM, and Genair 125-185 driven air compressor systems. In the affected vehicles, oil may leak from the PTO pressure switch onto a thermal blanket covering the exhaust.

Consequence: The leaking oil may soak into the thermal blanket covering the exhaust, which when combined with heat from exhaust, may result in an increased risk of fire.

Remedy: Vanair will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and install a new pressure switch kit that moves the switch away from the exhaust system, free of charge. The recall began in November 2014. Owners may contact Vanair customer service at 1-800-526-8817.

I WAS DRIVING EAST ON I-90 NEAR BOZEMAN, MT AT ABOUT 70MPH WHEN A WARNING APPEARED ON MY DASH TELLING ME TO PULL OVER TO A SAFE LOCATION IMMEDIATELY. THERE WAS AN OFF RAMP ABOUT 1/4 MILE AHEAD AND I BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN TO TAKE THE OFF RAMP WHEN THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY AND LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO BRING IT TO A STOP BARELY ON THE OFF RAMP WITHIN ONLY A FEW FEET OF THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. THE ENGINE WOULD NOT START, SO I CONTACTED A TOWING SERVICE AND WAITED FOR THEIR ARRIVAL. THEY WERE NOT DUE TO ARRIVE FOR ABOUT 1.5 HOURS AND IT WAS GETTI…

I HAD ENOUGH MOMENTUM TO CLEAR A BRIDGE AND PULL OVER WHILE COASTING. THE STRETCH OF ROAD THAT I WAS ON IS DESOLATE AND USED BY BIG RIGS ALL THE TIME. LUCKILY, THERE WAS LITTLE TRAFFIC AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT, BUT IT COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THE POWERING OFF OF THE VEHICLE. I HAD NO POWER STEERING OR POWER BRAKES. I CHECKED…

WHILE USUALLY TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND HITTING SMALL BUMPS SUCH AS EXPANSION JOINTS ON BRIDGES THE TRUCK WILL SHAKE VIOLENTLY. IT HAS DONE THIS WITH VARYING DEGREES, AND MOST RECENTLY HAS GOTTEN WORSE. THE MOST EXTREME AND RECENT EPISODE WAS HAVING TO SLOW DOWN TO ABOUT 10 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE BEFORE IT STOPPED, AND IN PROCESS NEARLY BEING HIT FROM BEHIND BY A TRACTOR TRAILER. THIS HAS BEEN CALLED THE "DEATH WOBBLE" IN SEVERAL ONLINE POSTS. *TR

WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED, THE VEHICLE, A 2011 FORD F-350 SUPER DUTY GAVE A WARNING TO PULL SAFELY OVER - WITH NO WARNING THE ENGINE STOPPED. THUS RENDERING THE STEERING AND THE BRAKING SIGNIFICANTLY DEGRADED. THANKFULLY, MY WIFE AND I WERE ABLE TO PULL INTO A NEARBY PARKING LOT AND WAIT FOR A TOW TO THE FORD DEALER. WHILE TOWING A 5TH WHEEL TRAILER I HAD A FRONT LEFT TIRE BLOW. THE TIRE BLEW DURING A RIGHT TURN/BEND IN THE HIGHWAY. I COULD ONLY MAINTAIN THE VEHICLE IN A STRAIGHT LINE UNTIL WE STOPPED. THE TIRE CAUSED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE TOW VEHICLE AND A COLLISION WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY. WE ALMOST ENDED UP IN A DITCH. *TR

THE VEHICLE IS A FLEET VEHICLE. IT WAS GOING WEST ON I70 NEAR THE MAMM CREEK EXIT WHEN THE TRANSFER CASE EXPLODED & STARTED THE OIL THAT WAS IN IT ON FIRE. THE DRIVER PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND USED 2 SMALL FIRE EXTINGUISHERS TO TRY TO PUT IT OUT BUT WASN'T ABLE TO. THE VEHICLE CAB WAS GUTTED BY THE FLAMES & IS A TOTAL LOSS. *TR

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
