Recall history

4 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

14V204000 · Power Train:Automatic Transmission:Control Module (Tcm/Pcm/Tecm)

Reported: 2014-04-17 (April 17, 2014)

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2015 F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 Super Duty trucks manufactured September 13, 2013, through March 28, 2014, and equipped with 6.2L gasoline or 6.7L diesel engines and 6R140 transmissions. An error with the transmission control software may be such that while shifting from "Park" to "Drive" the vehicle may display "Drive" but possibly engage "Reverse" for 1.5 seconds before engaging "Drive." Therefore, the vehicles do not conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 102, "Transmission Shift Lever Sequence, Starter Interlock, and Transmission Braking Effect."

Consequence: If the vehicle is in "Reverse" while the while the gear selection shows "Drive," unexpected movement could occur, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will update the transmission software, free of charge. The recall began on May 6, 2014. Owners may contact Fords customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14C04.

NHTSA campaign record ↗
15V024000 · Suspension

Reported: 2015-01-22 (January 22, 2015)

Life Line Emergency Vehicles (Life Line) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Life Line-modified Ford F-Series emergency vehicles that are equipped with Liquid Spring-brand aftermarket suspension kits. The mounting bracket that attaches the suspension fluid tank to the frame may fail allowing the fluid tank to separate from the vehicle.

Consequence: If the suspension fluid tank mount fractures and the tank separates from the chassis, the tank may become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: The remedy for this recall is still under development. The recall began on February 2, 2015. Owners may contact Life Line customer service at 1-563-578-3317.

15V175000 · Power Train:Automatic Transmission:Control Module (Tcm/Pcm/Tecm)

Reported: 2015-03-25 (March 25, 2015)

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2011-2015 Ford F-350, F-450, and F-550 trucks manufactured February 22, 2010, to January 30, 2015, and equipped with ambulance or fire engine preparation packages. The affected vehicles may detect an incorrect Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor (EGT) fault indicating that the vehicle is too hot, causing the engine management system to shut down the engine and prevent its immediate restart.

Consequence: Engine shut down and a subsequent cool down period may delay medical treatment or assistance to those needing it, increasing their risk of injury.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will update the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) software, free of charge. The recall began on April 22, 2015. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 15S09.

NHTSA campaign record ↗
25V572000 · Back Over Prevention: Sensing System: Camera

Reported: 2025-09-03 (September 3, 2025)

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2019 Lincoln MKC, Mustang, F-350 SD, F-250 SD, F-450 SD, 2015-2017 Lincoln Navigator, Expedition, 2015-2018 Edge, Transit Connect, 2016-2019 F-550 SD, Transit, 2017-2019 Econoline, and 2019 Ranger vehicles. The rearview camera may display a distorted, inverted, or blank image when the vehicle is in reverse.

Consequence: A rearview camera that displays an inverted, distorted, or blank image can reduce the driver’s view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the rearview camera as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 13, 2026. Ford owners will receive letters in phases, beginning January 2026 and June 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 25S89. This recall expands previous NHTSA recall number 25V270. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning September 8, 2025.

WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WITH A TRAILER AND A LOAD CONNECTED TO THE TRUCK THE CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM MESSAGE SUDDENLY APPEARED WITHIN THE MESSAGE DISPLAY, AS WELL AS THE ABS LIGHT, TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT, AND THE PARKING BRAKE LIGHT. IMMEDIATELY WE ATTEMPTED TO SLOW DOWN AND PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. FORTUNATELY TRAFFIC WAS NOT TOO CONGESTED AROUND US AND WE WERE DRIVING ON A RELATIVELY FLAT ROAD AT THE TIME. THE VEHICLE HAD LOST VIRTUALLY ALL BRAKING POWER AND THE WE BASICALLY HAD TO COAST TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE VEHICLE IS A 2016 F…

COMPLETE BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE WITH ONLY 830 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. ON JULY 19, 2019 WHILE APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION ON E. CAUSEWAY APPROACH IN MANDEVILLE, LA. I APPLIED THE BRAKES TO STOP FOR A RED LIGHT, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SLOWING ENOUGH TO AVOID HITTING THE VEHICLES AHEAD OF ME AT THE INTERSECTION. I RAPIDLY DOWN SHIFTED THROUGH THE GEARS TO REDUCE SPEED AND ALSO APPLIED THE PARKING BRAKE TO HELP REDUCE SPEED. WHILE THE VEHICLE DID SLOW DOWN IT WAS NOT ENOUGH TO AVOID HITTING THE TRAFFIC AHEAD, SO I VEE…

The trailer brakes fail after a random period of time. Though the trailer works fine with other controllers, the entire trailer was rewired with new brakes and a new 7-pin connector, the problem did not changed - there are no shorts, grounds, opens in the brake circuit, and the ground circuit is OK. There previously were and are no intermittent problems with the trailer. The trailer brakes will start off the trip working, but stop working at random times. I've often noticed that they'll fail shortly after sitting in traffic. After the failure, …

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
