Recall history

18 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

17V408000 · Power Train:Driveline:Driveshaft

Reported: 2017-06-26 (June 26, 2017)

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling all 2015-2017 Transit vehicles except 156" and 178" wheelbase Chassis Cab and Cut-Away bodies. In the affected vehicles, the flexible coupling connecting the transmission to the driveshaft may prematurely fail.

Consequence: If the coupling fails, the vehicle will not be able to move under its own power and the disconnected driveshaft may impact and damage the brake and fuel lines. Additionally, the separated driveshaft may allow the vehicle to roll if the vehicle is exited when the transmission is in 'Park' but the parking brake is not applied. These scenarios may increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and as an interim repair, dealers will replace the flexible coupling on any vehicle with more than 30,000 miles. A final remedy repair of a redesigned flexible coupling or a revised driveshaft equipped with a universal joint is being developed and is expected in early 2018. These repairs will be made free of charge. Interim notifications informing owners of the safety risk were mailed July 21, 2017. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 17S15.

17V668000 · Electrical System:Wiring

Reported: 2017-10-23 (October 23, 2017)

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2017 Ford Transit vehicles, equipped with a trailer tow module. Water can enter the tow modules and corrode the wiring causing issues such as rapidly flashing turn signals, loss of instrument panel display, an electrical short and possibly the deployment of seatbelt pretensioner.

Consequence: An electrical short can increase the risk of a fire. Turn signal, instrument cluster or seatbelt pretensioner problems can increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will add a drainage hole in the driver's door stepwell and incorporate a fuse into the vehicle's wiring harness, free of charge. The recall began on February 9, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 17S34.

Reported: 2019-10-25 (October 25, 2019)

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2017 Transit vehicles. This recall includes all full-size Transit vehicles previously recalled under 17V-408 except ones that received mechanical universal joint (u-joint) as a remedy and any 156" or 178" wheelbase Chassis Cab and Cut-Away bodies models. The flexible coupling connecting the transmission to the driveshaft may prematurely fail.

These scenarios may increase the risk of a crash or injury.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and as an interim repair, dealers will replace the flexible coupling every 40,000 miles until the final remedy is available. The final remedy will consist of installation of a driveshaft front section equipped with a mechanical u-joint in place of the flexible coupling. These repairs will be made free of charge. Transmission will downshift on its own when vehicle is decelerating making engine RPMs over rev. Only way I have found to prevent this is to shift to neutral and then back to drive. I don't like doing this because it could accidently get shifted into reverse while driving at highway speeds! Valve cover leaks dripping oil onto the exhaust manifold causing the vehicle to smoke very badly and could possibly cause a fire.

The transmission will downshift when deceleration and will actually throw you forward in the seat due to dropping into a lower gear. Vehicle has also developed an oil leak where oil is dripping onto the manifold, possible engine fire hazard. Engine is losing coolant due to possible blown head gasket.

I have sent this before, but my vehicles transmission will downshift, (at highway speeds), to a lower gear. I always have to put the van into neutral and then back into drive to get it to drive normal again. Also the van leaks oil onto the manifold which starts smoking. My van also uses antifreeze and I need to refill the coolant about every 2-3 days. This ecoboost engine is dangerous.

I looked online and found that there are hundreds of people (including shipping companies like Amazon) complaining about this issue, but there is no recall for the vehicle. However, they have several recalls for the TC on other models for that year. All complaints state that the TC goes out as low as 60,000 miles, and requires a full transmission rebuild at $3,700-$6200 per vehicle. This only rectifies the issue until the next 60,000 miles and then you have to do it all again?? This is basically a VE…

A known Ford defect on the 2017 3.5 ecoboost engine is when the manifolds, improperly designed and installed, warp and snap off the manifold bolts holding the manifold to the engine. My VIN number is not included in the backup camera recall. It says the recall includes the 2017 Transit. My back up camera stopped working about a year ago. Also when the camera stopped working my cruise control stopped working also. I believe this is a larger electrical issue.

THIS IS THE SECOND TIME OUR GAS PEDAL HAS SNAPPED AND BROKE OFF WHEN TAKING OFF/ ACCELERATING. IT HAS ALSO SEEMED TO DEVELOP SOME SORT OF STUTTER/BOG/HESITATION THAT SEEMS TO BE LINKED WITH THE COMMUNICATION FROM THE GAS PEDAL TO THE COMPUTER. SOMETIMES WE WILL GO AHEAD AND PULL ON OUT INTO TRAFFIC AND ACCELERATE TO GET UP TO SPEED AND THE VAN WILL BASICALLY FEEL LIKE IT'S STUTTERING/ HESITATING AND WE GIVE IT FURTHER THROTTLE WITH THE GAS PEDDLE, THEN IT WILL FINALLY ENGAGE AND SEEMS TO DROP DOWN SEVERAL GEARS AND SLAM/THRUST FORWARD. WE HAVE…

Vehicle rear camera has failed for the second time. Had it inspected at dealer and was told it was corrosion of wires, same as first time. Transit forums show it's a common problem. I don't want to back into/over anyone or run into something like my boat trailer which I did when it failed backing up and now have a large dent in the left rear door. Wire harness cost quoted at $450. There is obviously an issue. Thank you.

The vehicle experienced a breakdown due to the drive train coupler failed, a part that has an active recall notice (Ford 19S38 ) (NHTSA Safety recall 17V-408) and the failure of the recalled part caused significant damage to other mechanical parts of the vehicle. The Manufacturer has agreed to pay for the recalled part but not the peripheral damaged parts. The damage is significant. The day of the incident, I received a recall notice from the manufacturer in the mail. The recall notice is dated October 2023. The manufacturer should be liabl…

Our fleet of Ford transits are all having similar issues. This is the 2nd time this particular vehicle has lost power while driving causing extremely dangerous safety concerns. We were instructed by Ford to replace the throttle body which was done in 2021 and now the same issue is occurring. Ford needs to remedy this issue long-term. This issue is affecting the trust from my employees to provide them safe transportation, inoperable vehicles are causing lost revenue and the rest of my fleet is now unreliable causing concern for more serious acci…
