Recall history

3 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

23V737000 · Engine

Reported: 2023-11-02 (November 2, 2023)

Daimler Trucks North America, LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2024 Freightliner M2 and 114SD vehicles equipped with Cummins L9N engines. The rear lifting bracket that attaches to the engine cylinder head may be insufficiently secured, which can allow it to detach.

Consequence: A rear lifting bracket that detaches while the engine is being lifted can result in the engine falling or swinging, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy: Cummins dealers will inspect and replace the flanged stud in the rear lifting bracket, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 8, 2023. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712. DTNA's number for this recall is FL983.

24V668000 · Forward Collision Avoidance: Automatic Emergency Braking | Exterior Lighting:Brake Lights

Reported: 2024-09-10 (September 10, 2024)

Daimler Trucks North America, LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2024-2025 Freightliner 108SD, 2022-2025 Freightliner 114SD, Freightliner Business Class M2, 2025 Freightliner eM2, 2020-2025 Western Star 49X, 2021-2025 Western Star 47X, and 2022-2025 Western Star 57X vehicles that may be upfitted with a body lighting interface controller and replacement brake lights. The brake lights may not illuminate when the brakes are automatically applied during an active brake assist (ABA) event.

Consequence: Brake lights that fail to illuminate can fail to indicate to other drivers that the vehicle is slowing down, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will update the ABA software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 24, 2024. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 800-745-8000. DTNA's number for this recall is F1009.

Consequence: A loss of vehicle control increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect and tighten the fasteners, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 29, 2025. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712. DTNA's number for this recall is F1027.

I WAS DRIVING EAST ON I10 WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I THEN NOTICED THE DASH PANEL GOING IN ALL DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS. THE ERROR CODE CAME UP AS J1939. TALKING WITH WINNEBAGO AND CUMMINGS ENGINE THEY BOTH STATED THIS WAS A CHASSIS PROBLEM AND CONTACT FREIGHTLINER. I CALLED THEM IN ORLANDO FLORIDA AND THEY STATED THEY WERE AWARE OF SOME PROBLEM WITH THE DASH INSTRUMENT PANEL OR ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL CONTROL BOARD. THEY ALSO STATED THERE COULD BE AN ELECTRICAL SHORT IN THE WIRING HARNESS. I DID NOT HAVE AN ACCIDENT AND DID NOT LIKE…

The drive shaft fwd carrier bearing was missing 2 of the 3 bolt that hold it to the cross member. Being held with one bolt change the center line of the drive shaft moving towards the driver's side of the truck this resulted the the drive shaft rubbing on a air tank hanger. I do have pictures. It looks like the missing bolts where never installed.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
