Recall history

2 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

17V516000 · Power Train:Driveline:Driveshaft

Reported: 2017-08-22 (August 22, 2017)

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2018 Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain vehicles and 2017-2018 GMC Acadia vehicles. The right front intermediate driveshaft may fracture and separate while driving.

Consequence: If the front right intermediate drive shaft assembly separates while driving, the vehicle will lose propulsion, increasing the risk of a crash. If the assembly separates while parked on a grade, without the park brake engaged, the vehicle may move unintentionally, increasing the risk of a vehicle roll-away.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the right front intermediate drive shaft assembly, free of charge. The recall began August 25, 2017. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is 17329.

Reported: 2018-05-31 (May 31, 2018)

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2018 GMC Canyon, 2016-2017 Buick Envision, 2016-2018 Chevrolet Colorado and Malibu, 2017-2018 GMC Acadia, 2018 Buick LaCrosse, Cadillac ATS, Chevrolet Equinox, and GMC Terrain vehicles. The high pressure fuel pump may detach from its mounting flange, possibly resulting in the pump damaging the high pressure fuel line.

Consequence: A damaged fuel line can create a fuel leak, increasing the risk of a fire.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the high pressure fuel pump, and high pressure fuel pipe, free of charge. The recall began July 2, 2018. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 18188.

I was driving and making a left turn at a traffic light when all of a sudden, every light lit up on my dashboard. Then the dashboard turned completely black along with the radio screen. MY SPOUSE HAD A SEMI TRUCK COME INTO HER LANE A DAY AGO AND COULD NOT GET HORN TO SOUND TO WARN OTHER DRIVER. GMC DEALERSHIP INVESTIGATED AND SAID ITS JUST THE WAY THE ASSEMBLY WORKS IN THIS MODEL. The ACADIA 2020 while in slow motion approaching my private condominium parking spot, accelerated autonomously and then slammed into the cement wall. Airbags deployed, no warning of collision, seriously damaged both car and cement wall. No bodily injuries. I researched the possible cause coded P2138 which involves the drive by wire sensors which connect the throttle pedal and the CPU that controls the mechanical throttle gas system. That might be the cause of the autonomous acceleration like explained about the P2138 sensors issues.

GMC ACADIA WILL NOT REGISTER WHEN THE DRIVER SHIFTS THE GEARS INTO PARK. AN ERROR MESSAGE 'SHIFT TO PARK' IS SHOWN ON THE DASHBOARD EVEN THOUGH THE GEAR IS IN PARK. THE DRIVER IS UNABLE TO TURN THE CAR OFF BECAUSE OF THE ERROR MESSAGE. IT TAKES SEVERAL TURNS OF SWITCHING THE CAR ON AND OFF AND FLIPPING THROUGH ALL THE GEARS IN ORDER FOR THE MESSAGE TO DISAPPEAR SO THAT THE CAR TURNS OFF. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON JUNE 26 FOR REPAIRS AND HAS BEEN SITTING THERE OVER A MONTH BECAUSE THEY ARE UNABLE TO CORRECT THE ISSUE.

Gear shifter is not registering that the vehicle is in park. Because of this issue I have to sit in the vehicle for up to 15 mins trying to get it to register that it is in fact in park and can turn off. If I didn't take the time to do this, it would kill my battery. Unfortunately with the heat index, the vehicle gets hot very quickly and im now worried about getting hot stroke trying to get it to register it is park. This is a known issue with the vehicle that has an active recall for other vin numbers with the same issue.

When I put my vehicle in park, the message “shift to park” pops up. It has been doing this for well over a year. I have already had to replace a battery once due to this because I didn’t realize it was still on. It does not happen everytime I park but at random times. I jiggle the shifter, hit the “ +|- “ on the shifter and have to turn the vehicle off and on about five or six times. Eventually it will go off. It took me 20 minute…

THE DASH BOARD SHOWA A MESSAGE ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTERS THAT SAYS SHIFT TO PARK EVEN THOUGH THE GEAR SHIFT LEVERS ARE ALREADY IN PARK. IN ADDITION TO LOSING THE ABILITY TO SHUT OFF AND LOCK THE SUVS, I WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE SUV OFF AFTER ATTEMPTING TO DO SO SERVERAL TIMES.

FIRST OF ALL, THIS ISSUE IS BEING REPORTED BY HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF GMC ACADIA OWNERS. I RECEIVED THE "SHIFT TO PARK" MESSAGE MONTHS AGO WHILE IT STILL WAS UNDER THE 36,000 MILE WARRANTY AND THEN IT WENT AWAY UNTIL LAST WEEK. I GOT A "SHIFT TO PARK" MESSAGE WHEN I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF EVEN THOUGH THE GEAR WAS IN THE SHIFT POSITION. THIS CAUSED A NUMBER OF SECONDARY ISSUES THAT ARE NOW COMPROMISING THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE. ONCE I AM ABLE TO TURN THE VEHICLE BACK ON AFTER IT DRAINS OR KILLS THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, I AM GETTING A NUM…

I HAVE RECEIVED THE 'SHIFT TO PARK' ERROR MESSAGE ON THE DASH WHEN THE CAR IS ALREADY IN PARK. ONE TIME WITH THE CAR OFF, THE ERROR MESSAGE ON, THE CAR STARTED TO ROLL DESPITE IT BEING IN PARK. I HAD TO RESTART THE CAR, SHIFT THE SHIFTER DOWN THEN BACK TO PARK BACK DOWN AND BACK TO PARK BEFORE THE CAR WOULD RECOGNIZE THE SHIFTER WAS IN PARK. EACH TIME THIS HAPPENED WHEN I WAS IN A PARKING SPOT AND IN MY GARAGE.

SHIFT TO PARK KNOWN ISSUE HAS STARTED. I'VE HAD THE CAR FOR 1 YR. 5 MONTHS. I KNOW THERE ARE LAWSUITS ON THIS ISSUE. CONTINUOUS ISSUE AND GETTING WORSE. THIS NEEDS TO BE TAKEN CARE OF BY GM. IT IS EPIDEMIC IN THEIR ACADIAS. STATIONARY AND PUTTING IT INTO PARK. IT DOESN'T RECOGNIZE IT'S IN PARK! IT'S BEEN OCCURRING OFF AND ON OVER A WEEK, NOT TODAY, EVERY TIME I TRY TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE.

THE VEHICLE WOULD DISPLAY A DASHBOARD WARNING "SHIFT TO PARK." EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE WAS PUT INTO "PARK" THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT REGISTER THAT IT WAS IN PARK. THIS WOULD PREVENT THE VEHICLE FROM BEING TURNED OFF. A DRIVER WOULD THINK THE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK, AND TAKE THEIR FOOT OFF THE BRAKE, BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT REGISTER IT WAS IN PARK AND WOULD DISPLAY A WARNING ON THE DASH "SHIFT TO PARK." YOU WOULD THEN HAVE TO SHIFT BACK AND FORTH, FROM PARK TO REVERSE OR DRIVE AND THEN BACK INTO PARK FOR THE VEHICLE TO FINALLY REGISTER IT WAS IN PA…

"TAKATA RECALL" I HAVE A 2018 GMC ACADIA BEEN HAVING IT SINCE JULY 2018. TODAY I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND PUSHED TO THE BUTTON TO TURN THE ENGINE OFF AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF BUT IN THE DASH IT WAS DINGING AND SAID "SHIFT INTO PARK". I TURNED THE CAR ON AND OFF SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE IT WOULD SHUT ALL THE WAY OFF. IT HAS DOWN IT EVERY TIME I WENT TO SHUT THE CAR OFF TODAY. COULDN'T LEAVE IT AT WORK IN THE PARKING LOT LIKE THAT SO I HAD TO KEEP TURNING THE CAR ON AND OFF AND SHIFTING IT INTO REVERSE AND BACK TO PARK UNTIL IT SHUT OFF.

WHEN PUSHING VEHICLE IGNITION BUTTON "START/STOP" TO TURN VEHICLE "OFF" IT WILL TURN THE ENGINE OFF BUT KEEP THE VEHICLE STILL "ON" USING THE BATTERY. IF I OPEN THE DOOR AND SHUT IT, THE HORN HONKS TO ALERT THAT THE VEHICLE IS STILL "ON" AND NOT COMPLETELY STOPPED.
