I WOULD LIKE TO ADD MY NAME TO THE LIST OF COMPLAINTANTS IN REGARDS TO THE ANTI-LOCK BREAK PROBLEMS WITH GMC TRUCKS. THE ANTI-LOCK BREAKS ON MY 1999 GMC SIERRA WOULD INTERMITTENTLY ENGAGE FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS DUE TO A BUILD UP OF CORROSION & CHARGED $245.00 FOR THE REPAIR. WHILE I FORTUNATELY DID HAVE ANY ACCIDENTS, I DID HAVE SEVERAL NEAR MISSES. WHETHER THIS WAS A DESIGN FLAW OR AN INTENTIONAL ATTEMPT BY GM TO GENERATE INCOME FOR THEIR DEALERS, I DON'T FEEL I SHOULD HAVE TO INCUR THE EXPENSE.

FOR THE LAST TWO YEARS I HAVE HAD TO UNPLUG MY ABS BRAKES SYSTEM ,BECAUSE IT WOULD CONTINUOUSLY RUN. IF I DID NOT UNPLUG MY BATTERY WOULD DIE. THIS PAST CHRISTMAS 2004, I LOST MY BACK END COMING DOWN HILL AND LUCKILY RECOVERED. I HAVE CONTACTED GMC AND ARE STILL WAITING FOR AN ANSWER. ON A 1999 GMC SIERRA PICKUP THE ABS MODULE FAILED AT 26,000 MILES. IN RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM IT APPEARS THEY FAIL ON MOST SIERRA AS WELL AS CHEVROLET PICKUPS. THE REPAIR COST QUOTED ME RANGES BETWEEN $975 AND $1000. ONE SERVICE MANAGER CANDIDLY TOLD ME IT IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT GM SHOULD HAVE RECALLED. *JB

BRAKES NOT WORKING PROPERLY ON MY 2000 GMC SIERRA PICK-UP TRUCK. AT LOW SPEEDS WHEN THE BRAKE IS APPLIED, THE PEDEL VIBRATES WHICH INDICATES THE ANTI-LOCK SYSTEM. THE PEDEL MUST BE PUSHED HARDER THAN SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO HAVE THE BRAKES STOP THE VEHICLE. THIS HAPPENS IN BOTH FORWARD AND REVERSE. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
